Watch: Powerlifter sets 438kg record with ease

An American powerlifter has recorded one of the most impressive world records in weightlifting history.

Competing for Team USA at 2016 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Texas, Ray Williams set a world record squat of 438 kgs (965.6lbs).

The manner which he did it in was the most stunning, leading one commentator to say he has "single-handedly obliterated a world record and a weight class".

The former American football player and now defensive lineman coach was participating in the super heavyweights class, and extended his world record by 11.5 kgs.

Powerlifting experts and fans alike were stunned by his display of strength.

Just watched Ray Williams 965lbs squat again. It's amazing how easy he made it look. He could've hit 980-985 today. He'll squat 1000.
