Tony Khan Says WWE Is Out To Get AEW, "We Truly Hate Each Other"
Suggesting WWE is playing dirty by tampering, calling business partners, and messing with the attempted success of AEW, Tony Khan unloaded on WWE during a recent interview on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. Khan spoke recently about the hatred WWE and AEW have for each other, calling it one of the better storylines in the wrestling industry. Noting that WWE has allegedly gone out of its way to contact wrestlers and business partners AEW has current contracts with, Khan said, “Now, what’s interesting is the story that is the most real, the most intense, and the most hatred in all of pro wrestling is that between the two wrestling promotions (AEW & WWE). I think we truly, truly hate each other”. He added, "...they're out there to get me, I know they're out there to hurt AEW's relationships with our business partners, if that's the case, allegedly, and it made me want to work that much harder to make AEW stronger and then that ended up being probably the biggest year for growth we've probably ever had."
Khan called it a "real war" which makes it exciting for the fans and noted that the business is dirty. Alleging that a number of the members of his roster said they were approached by WWE about dropping their contracts with AEW, Khan mentioned tampering issues and WWE trying to scoop his working relationship with NJPW in 2021 as examples of how low WWE has stooped in the last couple of years.
Khan Thinks WWE Is Still Doing It
The AEW President noted, "I've had to go out and try to put on good shows despite this alleged tampering and stuff like that. Frankly, I don't think it's stopped us because the quality of the product and the quality of the shows is at an all-time high right now."
It's somewhat of a win for the fans because it forces each company to up its game, but it's an annoyance for Khan who seems to be having to deal with these issues on a regular basis.
