Tony Khan Open to Working With WWE, But Says Things Would Get Political

As long as AEW and WWE are opposing each other in the wrestling industry, some fans will yearn for a crossover opportunity where the two promotions work together to pit the top stars from one brand against the other. WWE had an opportunity to do something like this when they bought WCW, but even internally in WWE, there was politics in the locker room between old WCW stars and the then-current WWE roster. With that in mind, it's no wonder AEW's Tony Khan believes things would get challenging and political if AEW and WWE ever found a way to work on a project together -- which Khan says he's open to doing.

AEW's President seems more open to the idea of working with WWE than WWE seems to be to working with AEW. Whether that's because one brand is larger than the other or Khan simply wants to see the best of the best from each promotion meet up in dream matches that would appease the fans, he noted while appearing on WTF with Marc Maron (h/t Wrestling Inc.'s Nick Miller), that he wouldn't shoot down the idea of a joint show.

He noted, "It's something I would certainly be open to, and I think it's an interesting thing for the future." He did add, however, "It's not something that's ever really been done. They've kind of existed in their own space. We are working with a lot of wrestling promotions, and at times they've done stuff like that. But it would be a really interesting thing to see at some point."

The Partnership Wouldn't Come Without Challenges

Khan did admit that there would be potential issues the two sides would need to overcome. To try and explain how hard it might be, he painted the scenario of DC working with Marvel. Suggesting the owners of both would want their superheroes to win, how would that work between AEW and WWE? He noted, "You don't see those superheroes really crossing over very much. ... I think there'd be a lot of jostling for who's going to be positioned stronger. It would get very political."
