Tamra Judge Reveals What Caused Her To Leave Simon Barney
Tamra Judge opens up about her marriage to Simon Barney during her first few seasons on RHOC. One moment made her realize it was time to leave.
Fans of The Real Housewives of Orange County may remember when former star Tamra Judge was married to her ex-husband Simon Barney during the earlier seasons of the show and she recently shared the exact moment that caused her to leave him. When Tamra joined RHOC in season 3, she had a completely different life from what fans saw in the later years. Tamra was married to Simon and raising their kids Sidney, Spencer, and Sophia. Living with them was Tamra’s son Ryan Vieth, who Tamra had from a previous relationship.
Tamra was a stay-at-home-mom when she first started RHOC and fans saw a controlling side to Simon. Tamra was more of a free spirit but seemed to conform to Simon's needs. However, Tamra never was able to meet his expectations and viewers often saw him angry at her. Simon was also unhappy with Ryan and felt he wasn’t living up to his potential. When Simon tried to implement rules for Ryan, he pushed back, which caused problems between Simon and Tamra.
In RHOC season 5, Tamra was in her closet, trying to pick a dress for an event. Simon kept criticizing her choices, saying they weren’t “age-appropriate.” In a rebellious moment, Tamra told Simon she wanted to wear a black dress just because he didn't want her to. Tamra shared on Reality Life with Kate Casey that it was that moment that made the RHOC star realize she wanted to leave Simon. Tamra revealed, “That moment you saw in the closet, that was me realizing this isn't the way life is supposed to be. I'm not supposed to be told what I can wear, what I could do.”
Prior to being on RHOC, Tamra told Kate that she had no independence, but as she spent more time on the show and around other housewives, she realized there was another side to life. Tamra shared, “I never hung out and had lunch with girls, unless it was like my mom or my sister-in-law, something like that. So it was a huge eye-opener at that point. That’s when our lives, our marriage just kind of started getting really bad.” As much as she tried, Tamra said she couldn’t hide the deterioration of her marriage with Simon from the cameras.
After the tense scene in the closet, Tamra and Simon’s limo ride to the party was even worse. Simon kept criticizing Tamra, and she finally exploded on him, telling him she wanted a divorce. Following RHOC season 5, Tamra and Simon went their separate ways. Unfortunately, their divorce was contentious and Simon made horrible accusations about Tamra’s parenting. One bright side she revealed was not having her kids on RHOC anymore, which she felt made them more grounded. Tamra is now happily married to Eddie Judge, and the couple is still very much in love after being together for twelve years.
