Roman Reigns Celebrates Two Years Since Beating Leukemia For The Second Time

It has been two years since Roman Reigns returned to Raw and revealed his leukemia was in remission for the second time.

In October of 2018, Roman Reigns opened Raw with a promo that would have reduced even the most hardened wrestling fans to tears. The Big Dog revealed that he had leukemia. He actually revealed that his leukemia had returned, opening up about his first battle with the horrific disease prior to the start of his WWE career. Reigns relinquished the Universal Title and went on hiatus from WWE to commence treatment.

When Reigns walked out of Raw that night, no one knew when he would be back, including Reigns himself. Four months later, WWE announced that The Big Dog would be returning to update fans on his battle, and it was the best news anyone could hope for. Reigns revealed that his cancer was in remission, reducing us all to tears all over again, but this time for good reason.

It's hard to believe that today marks the two-year anniversary of Reigns making that announcement on Raw. The Universal Champion celebrated the occasion with a tweet this morning. The tweet reads "Wake me up God. And I will handle the rest. #BelieveInTheFight." Reigns returned to the ring at Fastlane that year, less than two weeks after the announcement.

It has been a mixed bag for Reigns since then, at least when it comes to his wrestling career. Since he wasn't around for the majority of the build to that year's WrestleMania, he missed out on the chance to main event the show for the fifth year in a row. No one in WWE history has managed to do that. Reigns does still hold the record after headlining four WrestleManias in a row, but he has to share it with Hulk Hogan.

Reigns was absent for a large chunk of 2020 too. Due to his previous battles with leukemia and to protect his family, Reigns presumably didn't want to be a part of the product during the height of the pandemic. However, since his return at SummerSlam, Reigns has been doing some of the best work of his career. That will culminate in another main event at WrestleMania when he defends the Universal Title against Edge.
