Rey Mysterio Reportedly Injured At Indie Event
The rumors surrounding a possible return to the WWE by Rey Mysterio have been circulating across the WWE universe for months now. But if he is coming back, it might not be as soon as expected due to an injury he suffered last Friday night.
The injury occurred during a match for Northeast Wrestling in Waterbury, Connecticut. It was a tag team match in which Mysterio was teamed with Flip Gordon against Joey Mercury and Caleb Konely.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com Mysterio believes that he tore his left bicep during the match. Meltzer reports that there is, at this time, no confirmation as to the extent of the injury. However, people who saw Mysterio after the match reportedly saw heavy swelling in the arm.
Mysterio felt the injury occur during the match and told Mercury about it as the fight was going on. Mercury was going to call an audible on the math finish, but Mysterio immediately set things up for the Double 619 and then frog splashed onto Konely from the top rope to get the pin and the win.
So, what does this mean for a possible Rey Mysterio match at WrestleMania? Well, after his surprise entrance at this year's Royal Rumble, fans were undoubtedly excited about the possibilities and a match at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. As of a few days ago, there were many rumors and reports circulating about a possible match vs John Cena on April 8, 2018, on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Now, there is, as Meltzer pointed out, no confirmation of how bad the injury is. However, if it is indeed a torn Bicep the chances of Mysterio fighting at WrestleMania seem very, very slim.
Hopefully, the injury isn't that bad and it can heal itself in a few weeks (which would still be cutting it close). However, if it is a full tear that requires surgery, that could easily keep Mysterio out of action for two to four months.
Let's not jump to any conclusions yet though. When Mysterio has had doctors look at it and provide an informed diagnosis than we, and the WWE, will know better what the possibilities are going forward.
