Paul Wight Says Captain Insano Character Coming To AEW
Paul Wight hasn't been a regular on AEW programming of late. Part of the reason is that the promotion and the AEW star have some big plans for the future. During an appearance on The Rob Brown Show, Wight revealed that Tony Khan had secured the rights to the Captain Insano character he made famous in the movie "Waterboy", and he'll be bringing that character to AEW.
This has been a project that has been a year in the works, says Wight. AEW filed the trademark over a year ago and Wight says now that the rights are secured, “Tony Khan and I have some pretty fun stuff coming up in the future that him and I put together." He notes, “So we’ve actually secured the rights to Captain Insano, so we are going to break out. Captain Insano will be coming out in the next couple of months, so that’s why I’ve kind of toned down a little on the in-ring performing as well. We’re kind of let that settle, doing the commentary work."
Wight says he's been working with Max Dunbar, who is an incredible comic book design guy and he helped draw the outfit up for Captain Insano. He also says fans can expect the character will have a lot more energy than what fans are used to seeing from him. He noted, "I’m looking to have a lot of fun. Like I’ve got a luxurious cape too. So I’m super excited."

One Big Difference Between The Old Character And The New One
Wight says there will be one major difference between the character fans were introduced to in the movie and the one he brings back in AEW. He doesn't have the long, flowing hair he did when he worked on the film. No matter how much he gets into the character, he notes he can't make his hair grow back. He noted, "Captain Insano is a little bit more bald. He’s cut the hair for a more streamlined headbutt approach."
