Orange Cassidy Surpasses Jade Cargill's Impressive AEW Record At Forbidden Door

Orange Cassidy is on one hell of a run right now, and despite the odds stacked against him, that run continued at Forbidden Door. Cassidy was tasked with defending his International Title against three pretty formidable opponents at the PPV, two of which currently hold championships in other promotions. Zack Sabre Jr, Katsuyori Shibata, and Daniel Garcia.

25 Defenses For Orange Cassidy

No, it wasn't the first time Cassidy has had to defend his title against more than one opponent in the same match. At Double or Nothing, the International Champion outlasted 20 other people to ensure he remained champion. This match took things to another level though and there were various moments where it seemed Cassidy's title run was in real danger.

Cassidy ultimately prevailed though, and as was pointed out a couple of times by the announcers, it was the 25th time Cassidy has gone into a match as champion and left with his reign intact. That's significant not only because it's incredibly impressive, but it means he has already set a record held by Jade Cargill. Cargill defended her TBS Title on 24 occasions, losing it last month to Kris Statlander.

More Defenses, Less Time

What makes Cassidy's 25 defenses even more impressive is the period of time across which they've happened. Cargill's title matches were spread out over almost a year and a half. Cassidy hasn't even been champion for 12 months yet, not even close in fact, and his reign continues. It's very likely he will set a record that isn't surpassed for a very long time by the time he eventually loses the championship.

It has quickly reached the point where Cassidy breaks a record every time he defends the title. It was highlighted last week that Wardlow had lost the TNT Title three times so far during Cassidy's one reign, reviving the long title run vs. many title runs debate. Back to Cargill, and fans will now be starting to ask who on Earth will be the one to finally beat Cassidy? It has already reached the point that it'll be a very big deal when that finally happens.
