Marty Scurll Responds To #SpeakingOut Allegations, Acknowledges Encounter Happened

Marty Scurll has issued a statement in response to the allegations made against him. He admits the encounter described did happen.

Wrestling's #SpeakingOut movement now features so many names in terms of those accused that it has become hard to keep track. Especially since each case is being treated differently and uniquely by various promotions, as they should be. Some of those accused of wrongdoing have been fired, others have been suspended, while some have had no action taken against them, presumably while investigations are ongoing.

Marty Scurll is one of the wrestlers of what has become a very long list of those accused. Scurll is in a position that not many others are in terms of the allegations as he is the one of the few in charge of the promotion he wrestles for right now, Ring of Honor. The allegation made against Scurll claims he tried to coerce a 16-year-old girl into having sex with him after a show in 2015, during which the girl performed oral sex before the pair was found by her friend.

Although Scurll admits that the event happened, he doesn't apologize for it per se as a part of his statement in reaction to the allegations. "I understand now that she now views our encounter as a part of a bigger problem within the wrestling community," Scurll wrote. He also states that he believes their encounter was consensual, and since the age of consent is 16 in the UK, he doesn't think he acted outside of the law.

"I also understand that some people have been attacking her on social media, and I implore you to please stop," the ROH booker went on to write. Scurll's statement reads as much like an open letter to the wrestling community as it does a statement to the woman with whom he confirms to have had an encounter with on the night in question.

As for what the next steps might be in terms of Scurll's situation, we imagine that's up to him and the other heads of state at ROH. Judging by the way AEW has reacted to allegations against certain members of its roster, if there were any plans for Scurll to appear alongside his former Bullet Club buddies any time soon, those will have probably been put on ice for the time being.
