Mark Henry Discusses Possible Reason For Roman Reigns' Part-Time Schedule

While Roman Reigns has been enjoying one of the greatest championship runs in wrestling history, some people have criticized what has basically become a part-time schedule for The Tribal Chief. The further into his reign he goes, the less and less he appears on WWE programming. WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW coach & scout Mark Henry has offered a reason as to why this is the case, stating that it likely involves Roman Reigns' prior health issues.

A Roman Reigns WWE appearance has become an event instead of a weekly attraction. It's one thing for Roman not to be featured on weekly episodes of WWE's programming, but in 2023, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion even missed out on some premium live events. In fact, Reigns wrestled the least matches ever in his career, with a whopping total of 11 bouts.

From The Big Dog to The Tribal Chief, there are many backstage stories fans should know about Roman Reigns' journey in WWE.

On the recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry discussed Roman Reigns' hiatuses from WWE, and how he believes it has to do with Roman and the company taking precautions when it comes to his health. Reigns previously suffered from leukemia, and while he has successfully overcome it, it has left him with an impaired immune system.

Mark Henry provided personal anecdotes as to what the situation might be for Roman Reigns:

“He can’t even be around all the time, crowds and stuff, because [of] the medicine that he takes. He needs rest. Like, not from wrestling, for living. I have a friend that had leukemia. And when we’re in the car, he wears a mask … just not to breathe the air … I might be sick. My daughter, she gets infusions every so often because of her Crohn’s. Her body does not defend itself against everything, so she gets a cold, it could be pneumonia. It’s different with people like Roman.”

For some Superstars, a feud with Roman Reigns is a career boost. Other competitors, though, saw their stock fall after battling the Tribal Chief.

Reigns' absence is rarely felt, as everyone steps up their game. WWE also introduced the World Championship, which, while arguably the second biggest prize for the men's division, has helped fill that top-tier championship void.
