Is Michael Baldwin Leaving The Young And The Restless? (Rumors Explained)
Actor Christian LeBlanc has been notably absent from The Young And The Restless of late, so is his character Michael Baldwin leaving the soap?
He’s been absent from the soap opera for quite some time, so is Michael Baldwin leaving The Young And The Restless? Genoa City’s resident legal eagle Michael Baldwin is played by Christian LeBlanc, who first joined the cast of The Young And The Restless in 1991. Initially written as a villain, Michael almost immediately became obsessed with Lauralee Bell’s character Christine Blair and left the hit soap opera in 1993 after attacking her and being sentenced to serve four years in prison.
Christian LeBlanc made a suitably dramatic return to The Young And The Restless cast in 1997 and since then Baldwin has gone through something of a redemption arc by becoming a loving husband, family man and relatively upstanding citizen – at least by soap opera standards, that is. Nowadays, Michael is a Young And The Restless mainstay and LeBlanc – who celebrated his 30th year playing the Genoa City lawyer in 2021 – has scooped several Daytime Emmy awards for his performance and is one of the most popular characters.
Like any The Young And The Restless character worth their salt, Michael Baldwin’s three decades on the soap opera have been pretty eventful. He’s survived donating a kidney, battling prostate cancer and several attempts on his life but a recent storyline had soap opera fans worrying his time on The Young And The Restless might be over for good. A recent arc saw Michael hired by the villainous Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) to dig up some dirt on his conniving son-in-law Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) which took him to Peru, where he mysteriously disappeared after learning that Ashland had been faking his cancer diagnosis.
After Ashland’s cronies ominously informed him the man snooping into his life had been “dealt with”, viewers wondered whether Michael Baldwin was leaving The Young And The Restless - like Chelsea Lawson before him - and started speculating that the character might turn up dead. Fortunately for worried audiences, Michael returned to Genoa City safe and sound but clearly frazzled by whatever he experienced in a recent episode of the soap opera that aired on March 29, 2022 – but why did Michael temporarily exit The Young And The Restless in the first place?
It turns out that Christian LeBlanc was simply taking a short break from The Young And The Restless because he was rehearsing for an off-Broadway production of the Tennessee Williams play Cat On A Hot Tin Roof in which he’s playing Big Daddy. The production is set to run from mid-July to mid-August this year at St. Clement’s Theater in New York City, so Michael Baldwin will presumably be absent from Young And The Restless - which can be found streaming here - once again in the not-too-distant future. Soap opera viewers shouldn’t worry, however, as LeBlanc reportedly signed a new three-year contract with The Young & The Restless recently so he’s likely to remain on the show for some time.
