For $1.53M Champion Ryan Fox, Surging Past Rory McIlroy and Other Ryder Cuppers Makes Way for His Return to a Grander Stage
The final day of the BMW PGA Championship would have surely come off as a surprise to the golf world. The round saw a reversal of sorts leading to the leading golfers on the scoreboard including fan-favorite Rory McIlroy to his Ryder Cup counterparts Ludvig Aberg and Tyrrell Hatton being pushed aside by Ryan Fox to clinch the $1.53 million win.
The happiness that the golfer and his family would be feeling is warranted since his incredible performance is what propelled him to the top of the leaderboard. Moreover, a heartwarming video uploaded on Instagram has left the golf community touched as Fox was seen reprising his role as a dad and champion simultaneously while keeping an eye towards the time ahead – a future at Augusta National!
Ryan Fox, the Champion Dad
A dramatic final round saw Aberg’s hope of winning back-to-back championships go down the drain while the New Zealand professional saw himself taking home the biggest win of his career. Being his fourth win on the European tour, the victory became extra special after taking a look at the scoreboard, one filled with the top European golfers.
The champion was juiced up about his win as he turned to his wife with his child in hand and asked her about the leaderboard. The golfer’s wife was flustered as he pointed out the names of some of the world’s best golfers including “Rahm, Hovland, Fleetwood, McIlroy, Scott” all the while expressing his pride over the victory.
Moreover, in the video uploaded by the official Instagram handle of DP World Tour, the Kiwi was seen visibly joyous as he mentioned to his caddie, Dean Smith, how they “get to go back to Augusta next year.”
The golfer chasing a full PGA Tour status has pushed himself forward to grant himself a chance at the Masters Tournament to be held in the Augusta National in 2024 through the win at the BMW PGA Championship, a Rolex Series event on the European Tour.

The happy family of four would consider this occasion an exceptional one in their lives as the happy dad of two got to spend the special moment with his dear family, portraying himself as a proud dad and champion in one picture. The 36-year-old has every reason to do so since he emerged victorious against a complete Ryder Cup squad!
Fox clinches title from the European Ryder Cup team
Even as the whole of the Luke Donald-led team made it into the weekend rounds, only three of the squad placed themselves inside the top 10 including the likes of McIlroy, Aberg, and Hatton. The Swede prodigy faltered under pressure to score a 4-over in the final round pushing himself down to T10. Meanwhile, the Englishman was in tight contention for the title but a mistake on the 15th hole lost him the crown.
Although McIlroy had a slow start with closely making the weekend cut, he bounced back spectacularly to place himself at T7. The Northern Irish golfer had every chance to grab the win but a frustrating 17th and 18th holes led him to miss out on a birdie leading him to guard his position at seventh.
One can’t help but respect the Kiwi for beating the star-studded field and taking home the winners cut from the $9 million prize pool.
