Every Non-Title WrestleMania Main Event, Ranked From Worst To Best

It's incredibly rare that a non-title match headlines WrestleMania. Traditionally, the WWE Championship match has headlined WrestleMania, and rightfully so. Of course, not every WWE Championship match that went on last on the Show of Shows has been memorable. However, the WWE Championship is the most prestigious title that WWE has at its disposal. Nevertheless, sometimes a grudge match or a match featuring two big names is more than capable of closing out WrestleMania.RELATED: The 10 Best Attires Of WrestleMania 38, RankedSince 2020, WrestleMania has become a two-night extravaganza. The chances of a non-title match headlining WrestleMania have gone up drastically. Nonetheless, there have been many instances where a marquee match has upstaged a World Championship match at WrestleMania, and some have justified their spot to go on last.

8 Hulk Hogan Vs. Sid Justice - WrestleMania 8

Ric Flair and Randy Savage's WWE Championship match should have gone last at WrestleMania 8 but they played second fiddle to Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice's contest. It was arguably the worst main event in the history of WrestleMania. This match failed to get out of first gear, and it dragged on.

Hogan's trademark leg drop generally seals the deal but Sid kicked out of it as Papa Shango missed his cue. It summed up the sorry state of this match, and Shango looked clueless when he appeared. Hogan prevailed by disqualification but everything that could go wrong horribly went wrong in Hogan and Sid's clash.

7 Roman Reigns Vs. The Undertaker - WrestleMania 33

Undertaker v Reigns WrestleMania 33 Cropped

Roman Reigns was being groomed as the next face of the company, but fans detested the idea of the Big Dog being shoved down their throats. At WrestleMania 33, Reigns and The Undertaker closed out the show. Unfortunately, the Demon of Death Valley was nowhere near fit enough to be competing in a match of this caliber.

Undertaker was extremely popular with the fans, and they desperately wanted to see him prevail. Reigns and Undertaker's No Holds Barred match was bitterly disappointing. However, Reigns handed Undertaker his second loss at WrestleMania. The Deadman teased retirement as he left his trench coat and hat in the ring.

6 Hulk Hogan & Mr. T Vs. Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff - WrestleMania

To date, the inaugural WrestleMania is the only time where the WWE Championship was not at stake at WrestleMania. Nonetheless, WWE Champion Hulk Hogan was in a prominent position as he was an integral figure in the main event. He teamed up with Mr. T and they squared off with Roddy Piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff.

There were celebrities aplenty with Muhammad Ali involved in proceedings. This match was never going to be a technical masterclass, but fans enjoyed it. Inevitably, Hogan and Mr. T were victorious, and they celebrated after the match.

5 Lawrence Taylor Vs. Bam Bam Bigelow - WrestleMania 11

Bam Bam Bigelow v Lawrence Taylor WrestleMania 11 Cropped

WrestleMania 11 is one of the worst WrestleManias that WWE ever produced. Instead of Diesel and Shawn Michaels' WWE Championship going on last, NFL legend Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow took center stage and headlined the show. Moreover, Bigelow represented Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Corporation, and he had his stablemates in his corner.

Taylor wasn't on his lonesome either as he had some of his teammates by his side. Credit has to be given to Bigelow for bumping and making Taylor look good. Nevertheless, Bigelow failed to put Taylor away, and Taylor's persistence paid off as he overcame the Beast from the East.

4 Steve Austin Vs. Kevin Owens - WrestleMania 38: Night One

Steve Austin v Kevin Owens WrestleMania 38

For the first time in 19 years, Steve Austin wrestled in a WWE ring. The WWE Hall of Famer took on Kevin Owens in the main event of night one of WrestleMania 38. This was a No Holds Barred match, and it was KO's first taste of headlining WrestleMania. Of course, Austin was no longer at the peak of his powers, but competing in his home state of Texas in the AT&T Stadium was a sight to behold.

Austin took a suplex from Owens on the concrete floor in the crowd. Fans salivated at what they were witnessing as no one expected Austin to wrestle again. Ultimately, Austin finished off Owens with his patented Stunner, and he extended his WrestleMania main event record to an outstanding 4-0.

3 The Undertaker Vs. AJ Styles - WrestleMania 36: Night One

AJ Styles v The Undertaker WrestleMania 36

The Undertaker deserved his final match to be in front of a jam-packed sold stadium at WrestleMania. However, the COVID-19 pandemic had other ideas, and The Undertaker battled AJ Styles in a Boneyard on night one of WrestleMania 36. This was a historical moment as Undertaker made history as the first man to headline WrestleMania in four different decades, which is a ridiculous achievement.

Undertaker and Styles made the most of a bad situation, and this match became captivating to watch. It was physical and both men enjoyed spells of dominance. Not even Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson's presence could save Styles from Undertaker's clutches. The Deadman triumphed and he rode into the sunset with a handy win.

2 The Rock Vs. John Cena - WrestleMania 28

Cena and Rock's first clash at WrestleMania 28

The time for talking was over, and The Rock was on a collision course with John Cena in a match dubbed "Once in a Lifetime." Two heavy-hitters in Rock and Cena encountered in the Great One's hometown of Miami at WrestleMania 28. Their disdain for each other made matters interesting, and they managed to produce a memorable wrestling match.

Big Match John connected with a pair of Attitude Adjustments which Rock managed to kick out of. Ultimately, Cena made a huge error when he attempted the People's Elbow, and Rock performed the Rock Bottom to see off Cena for one of the biggest victories in his career.

1 The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 26

Undertaker v Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 26 Cropped

The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels' instant classic at WrestleMania 25 was so good that no one managed to top it that night. A year later, the two legends went toe to head in the main event of WrestleMania 26. However, there was a caveat as Undertaker's 17-0 WrestleMania unbeaten record was on the line as was HBK's wrestling career.

They pulled out the stops to make this legendary contest. There were near falls after near falls with both refusing to lie down. This was the first WrestleMania main event in 15 years to not feature a championship match as the headline act. Ultimately, Michaels pushed Undertaker to his limit, but a Jumping Tombstone Piledriver brought an end to HBK's career.
