EC3 Challenges John Cena To A Match At NXT Takeover
New NXT recruit Ethan Carter III has a simple solution for John Cena's road to WrestleMania problem, face him at TakeOver.
John Cena is currently in the process of trying to find his own personal route to WrestleMania. Every avenue he attempts to take winds up leading nowhere so far and following his Elimination Chamber loss the 16 time World Champion seemed to be on the cusp of giving up entirely.
Cena's motto is "never give up," though so that would not have been in keeping with his whole mantra. Instead, he announced to the WWE Universe that he would be heading back to SmackDown Live in search of opportunities. So far, that has worked out pretty well for Big Match John. His win over AJ Styles on Tuesday night earned him a spot in the WWE Championship match at Fastlane and if he wins that he will go on to face Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania.

That still doesn't guarantee a spot on the WrestleMania card for him though. Winning the WWE title at Fastlane with five other men competing for it won't exactly be a walk in the park. If Cena does fail again though, an unexpected competitor has thrown down the gauntlet. That competitor is one of NXT's newest Superstars Ethan Carter III.
EC3 posted on Twitter this week that if Cena doesn't find his road to WrestleMania elsewhere then the two of them should throw down at NXT TakeOver the night before. The chances of that happening are pretty much impossible, but it's still pretty cool that Carter is trying to make waves in WWE before he has even had his first match. He will likely be on the TakeOver card on April 7, 2018, but his opponent won't be someone as high profile as John Cena.
Who exactly Cena will stand opposite in New Orleans is up in the air as of right now. While the veteran is currently focused on getting that match against Nakamura, it's unlikely that he will. On Monday he challenged The Undertaker and that dream match could still be the one that takes place, however, there are also rumors that a returning Rey Mysterio will be his opponent. With the predictability of the Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns main event it's nice for another top match to have us guessing with less than six weeks to go.
