AEW Had No Plans To Include Jeff Hardy In Tag Title Ladder Match

It has been quite the week in pro wrestling, and unfortunately, most of the big stories coming out of the last few days haven't been good news. From Vince McMahon stepping down to Sasha Banks' potential release, it's been a busy and problematic week for the business. As for the worst news to come out of what has been a pretty bad news week, that goes to Jeff Hardy who was arrested for another DUI on Monday.

Jeff Was Never Going To Be In The Match

More details regarding what went on and what has happened since continue to emerge, including a report claiming The Hardy Boyz were never going to be in Wednesday's ladder match. The main event of this week's Dynamite featured Jurassic Express losing the Tag Titles to The Young Bucks. A match in which Matt and Jeff were advertised to compete until the latter was arrested.

However, according to Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez, The Hardy Boyz were never going to be in that match, regardless of Jeff's DUI. At least not since Double or Nothing. “They were going to do the angle where he and Matt were going to be coming out for the ladder match, they were going to be jumped on the ramp and they were going to be carted off,” Alvarez explained.

Original Plans For The Match

After being jumped on the ramp and taken away, the match would have presumably unfolded as it did on Dynamite. A win for The Bucks and then Christian Cage turning on Jungle Boy afterwards. As for why AEW changed course on the Hardyz being in, and potentially winning, the ladder match, that decision appears to have been made after Jeff didn't look so good after his match at Double or Nothing.

As Matt has already clarified, Jeff was almost knocked out during the match at the PPV. Jeff was reportedly supposed to be getting a brain scan, again according to Alvarez, on the same day he was arrested for the DUI. All of this backs up a Fightful report from earlier this week stating AEW planned to make the Hardyz Tag Team Champions, but the events at Double or Nothing changed those plans.
