10 WWE Characters Who Were Doomed From The Start
Over the years, there has been a real variety of WWE characters, some of which have become iconic, and others which have been easily forgettable. Sometimes that is down to poor booking, injuries, or poor performances from the talent involved. However, other times the character idea is just that weak that the talent was doomed from the start.

Certain ideas throughout WWE history have just been so unbelievably poor, that right from the get-go there was no way that they were going to get over. Sometimes, it is mindboggling how certain ideas even got through the creative process to become reality, with some talented wrestlers being wasted on dreadful gimmicks.
10 The Goon
This is one gimmick that was simply never going to get over, and because of that, it was a character that was doomed right from the beginning. The character was someone who plays hockey, and that was about as far as it stretched.
It was a total disaster and didn't lead to anything of note, which is no surprise to anybody. Fans require a little more than simply being a hockey player in order to connect or care about a wrestler.
9 Isaac Yankem
Isaac Yankem is another classic WWE gimmick from that period of time which often featured a wrestler centering his character around a specific occupation. In June 1995, Jerry "The King" Lawler introduced his evil dentist, and to the surprise of nobody, this gimmick didn't last.
Thankfully, the sheer talent of Glenn Jacobs managed to push through, and rather than him fading away due to how dreadful this gimmick was, he went on to become Kane.
8 Max Moon
A truly out-of-this-world gimmick, Max Moon was a ridiculous character and someone who just looked terrible visually. The outfit that Konan was made to wear was laughable more than anything, which is why the idea didn't work.

Nobody at all managed to take this gimmick seriously, which is no surprise at all when taking a look at him. The fact he had a gun which shot sparkles certainly didn't help his cause either.
7 Kizarny
Kizarny only managed to make two in-ring appearances throughout his WWE career, which shows just how well things went for him. The carnival-style gimmick was very over-the-top and was never going to work in WWE.
It had Doink The Clown vibes but nowhere near on that level, which led to it falling flat. Having the character doing carny talk also didn't help things as fans didn't understand everything, and while that was the point, it didn't make much sense.
6 Mantaur
There have been some absurd characters in WWE history with wrestlers portraying all sorts of different things, but someone acting like a bull is one of the worst. This was just impossible to take seriously and was never going to result in stardom.
From the start, WWE created an absolute mountain for Mike Hallick to climb, and it's no real surprise that he wasn't able to do that. The gimmick stopped any potential that he had, cursing him from day one.
5 Repo Man
Another gimmick that is totally focused on a specific role, in this case, being someone who would repossess items from other wrestlers. However, wrestlers aren't really known for having major possessions outside of titles, but he was never on that level.

It was supposed to be a heel gimmick but there was absolutely no reason to hate or be scared of this character. Instead, it felt more comedic, especially with the ridiculous mask that he wore, with this being another character doomed from the start.
4 Kerwin White
Everyone knows that Chavo Guerrero is an excellent worker, and that talent shone throughout his career. However, WWE almost killed his career with the dreadful Kerwin White gimmick.
Fans already knew who Chavo was and they didn't invest in his new gimmick one bit. This suburbanite white dude character was something that didn't pique the interest of the WWE Universe, and why would it? People watch wrestling to see stars in action, not people in goofy gimmicks like this.
3 The Shining Stars
Here's an example of how WWE managed to doom not just one, but two characters all in one fail swoop.
The Shining Stars gimmick was a dreadful one, with Primo and Epico Colon spending all their time just promoting Puerto Rico. What that had to do with wrestling, nobody really knows. Considering that they come from a well-known wrestling family, playing off that seemed to make sense. Maybe they're better off promoting the Colón family dynasty than handing out brochures for timeshares.
2 Tugboat
Tugboat really was a forgettable wrestler for various reasons. From Fred Ottman's poor in-ring work to the fact that this blatant Popeye style character was just something that was never going to work.

The gimmick just did not connect, to the surprise of anybody. There was no reason for fans to really care about Tugboat, which was a shame. WWE could have done a lot more with someone of his size and strength.
1 The Gobbledy Gooker
Debuting on the same night as The Undertaker, it was clear that one was destined for success and one was going to fail. The Gooker gimmick is easily one of the worst things that WWE has ever come up with and this truly was a disaster.
WWE had teased the giant egg for several weeks and the eventual pay-off wasn't worthwhile. Hector Guerrero, dressed up in a turkey suit was never going to work as a serious character, with this always being destined for failure.
