The best storylines in WWE history leave a huge impact on the viewer and ensure that these moments will live in wrestling history. Everyone will remember the high peaks, but there are usually some weird moments along the way. A current example would be the Bloodline storyline already crafting a legacy, but fans won’t talk about some of the secondary odd moments from the earlier months.

Quite a few historically great angles had that playing out with WWE and the viewing public remembering the best moments of a culmination or big reveal. However, there are plenty of segments and ideas that happen in a long-form angle that deserve to be mentioned. The following weird moments took place in all-time great WWE storylines despite rarely being remembered.
10 Vince McMahon Challenging Ric Flair In Street Fight (Ric Flair's Retirement Storyline)
The incredible WWE retirement of Ric Flair paid off a storyline going on for months. Vince McMahon clashing with Flair led to a stipulation of any loss for Flair meaning that he’d be forced to retire. Flair scored wins over names like MVP and Mr. Kennedy to keep his career going.

McMahon grew tired of Flair surviving retirement and challenged the legend himself to a street fight. Flair won the match to continue the angle until Shawn Michaels retired him. However, no one talks about Vince putting himself in a huge match against Flair since it happened on Raw.
9 Steve Austin Tricks WWE Into Thinking He's Corporate (Austin Vs Vince McMahon)
Steve Austin and Vince McMahon feuding may be the greatest storyline in WWE history when looking back at all the success. McMahon’s desire to stop Austin from breaking all the rules and representing the company as such a rebel led to Austin making him pay more times than not.
One funny yet strange moment from the angle saw Austin showing up in a suit and seemingly following Vince’s wish to become a corporate champion. However, it was all a huge swerve with Austin actually stripping to his underwear when throwing his suit into the crowd.
8 Chris Jericho Calling Kevin Owens "The Donkey" (KO & Jericho's Friendship Forming)
WWE found lightning in a bottle with the epic angle of Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens becoming best friends. One of the first times they teamed together saw them as reluctant partners facing off against mutual babyface rivals as a heel team.
Owens celebrated by referring to Jericho as the G.O.A.T. since he’s an all-time great. Jericho heard the word “goat” and referred to Owens as a donkey to match the comment. The unintentional humor in that moment was great and helped set the tone for them working together more.
7 Trish Stratus & Mickie James Impersonating Each Other During Match (Mickie Stalking Trish)
Mickie James stalking Trish Stratus after teaming up as a super fan became an all-time great storyline for the women’s division. The angle basically created a new star as Mickie became the most credible and important female wrestler outside of Trish and Lita.
WrestleMania 22 was the big night when James defeated Stratus to become the Women’s Champion. However, fans forget that they had a wild build to a rematch at Backlash 2006. Mickie started impersonating Trish after the title win, so Stratus did the same in what felt like a Freaky Friday recreation doing each other’s moves and wearing other’s gear.
6 Batista Attacking JBL (Batista's WM 21 Title Shot Pick)
WWE did a great job heating up Batista at the end of his Evolution time after winning the Royal Rumble match. Batista had to pick between his Evolution leader Triple H and Smackdown’s JBL as the two world champions with a chance to face him at WrestleMania 21.
Triple H was clearly trying to manipulate Batista during the process with the hopes of him challenging JBL on the Smackdown brand. Batista even attacked JBL at No Way Out 2005 after Triple H framed JBL for trying to run him over. The story saw Batista being ahead of Triple H’s plan, but he still went after JBL during the build.
5 Charlie Sheen Calling Out Daniel Bryan (Bryan & Kane's Team Hell No Anger Management Bonding)
The storyline between Daniel Bryan and Kane was not supposed to take when it did for WWE. Bryan was scheduled to face Charlie Sheen at SummerSlam 2012 when the celebrity was promoting his new show. Sheen even appeared on Raw via satellite to agitate Bryan and set up their build.

Bryan having anger management issues was meant to tie into Sheen since his new sitcom was about anger management. However, Sheen backed out and WWE just placed Bryan into a feud with Kane after some previous moments there. The whole Team Hell No storyline started as a huge chapter of both legends’ careers.
4 Vince McMahon Backing Kevin Owens & Mustafa Ali Over Kofi Kingston (KofiMania)
The unexpected rise of Kofi Kingston in 2019 featured an organic fan movement of audience members wanting him to win a world title for the first time. Vince McMahon tried to hold Kingston down as an authority figure to add to the story, but some of the moments were strange.
Kevin Owens and Mustafa Ai were handpicked names by Vince to receive a title shot over Kofi. Neither fit the bill of the overpushed wrestler McMahon believed in like when he tried to make Randy Orton champ over Daniel Bryan. This was an odd chapter of the angle to get fans behind Kofi, but it made little sense for Ali or Owens.
3 Big Show Knocking Out Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan (Bryan Vs The Authority)
WWE booked the Daniel Bryan vs The Authority feud for about half a year with a few twists along the way. Big Show was slotted into the program after getting blackmailed by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon holding his job future over his head.
Battleground 2013 had one of the strangest endings in WWE PPV history when Big Show knocked out both Bryan (as per The Authority’s demands) and Orton (his own choice) to end the match without a winner. There were many hiccups on the road before Bryan finally got his revenge to make it an all-time great storyline.
2 Test Backing Them Up (Triple H & Stephanie McMahon Running Show As Heel Couple)
Test was the odd man out when Triple H ruined his wedding with Stephanie McMahon and revealed they were married. Stephanie later shared she was part of the plan to spite Vince and became a willing partner of Triple H as they gained power.
The McMahon Helmsley Regime was a tremendous Attitude Era storyline for faces like Mick Foley, Lita and The Rock to score big moments trying to stop them. However, Test turned heel for his own character and eventually started helping them. An odd backstage segment even saw them making peace after all the drama.
1 Al Snow Trying To Ruin Their Friendship (Rock & Sock Connection)
The Rock and Sock Connection proved that great wrestling storylines can come in any genre, including a tag team comedy angle. Mick Foley and Rock started to become friends as mutual babyfaces after their long history of violent matches against each other.
Al Snow got jealous of Foley’s friendship with Rock and tried to sabotage it. Foley actually turned his back on Rock during a tag match due to the forgotten backstory of him giving Rock a copy of his book and Snow throwing it in the trash. The Rock and Sock Connection made up when they discovered Snow’s manipulation.
