10 Things Fans Should Know About Goldberg

Bill Goldberg was one of the most popular stars during the Monday Night Wars. But most hardcore wrestling fans don't like him much, because of how bad his wrestling skills are, and he ended the career of a great wrestler. Still, it doesn't change the fact that Goldberg is still a huge draw.

There’s a reason why WWE constantly puts him in huge matches and is willing to pay him millions of dollars. The fact that Goldberg has wrestled less than 50 minutes since his 2016 return to WWE should be enough to tell how over he still is with fans.

10 Who Decided Kevin Nash Would End His Streak

Goldberg had one of the most iconic streaks in wrestling history. His streak began in June 1997 and lasted for a little over a year. During that time, he won 173 matches (as per WCW’s claim) and eventually lost to Kevin Nash in 1998, after Scott Hall tased him.

Many fans believed that Nash booked himself to go over Goldberg, but he denied those rumors. By the time Goldberg had won over 170 matches, WCW had run out of opponents for him, so they booked it to end one day.

9 He Wanted To End His Streak Against Bobby Eaton

Until Goldberg told this story a few years ago, not many fans knew that he wanted to end his streak against Bobby Eaton in a dark match. Back in August 1998, WCW did a house show in Eaton's hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, on his birthday. Goldberg was scheduled to face him that night in a dark match, and he wanted to lose to him. But WCW didn't allow Goldberg to end his streak this way.

8 The Undertaker Almost Broke His Neck

Goldberg Vs The Undertaker super showdown

Goldberg vs The Undertaker at Super ShowDown was one of the worst dream matches. Most people would agree that these two shouldn’t have faced each other at their age. Both were already way past their prime, and their bodies were in no shape to provide a great match.

The Deadman was not the only one who botched his moves at Super ShowDown. Goldberg also botched his finisher, The Jackhammer. He couldn’t lift Undertaker properly and ended up executing something else instead. This spot looked scary because Undertaker was way too close to breaking his neck.

Both wrestlers were very disappointed with their performance that night. And it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they nearly died during this match.

On December 19, 1999, Goldberg and Bret Hart tussled it out for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Starrcade. This was the night that would change the trajectory of the Hitman's life.

During the match, Goldberg hit Hart with a botched kick that ended up ending his career sometime later. On multiple occasions, Bret has claimed that Goldberg cost him millions of dollars with just one kick.

At Survivor Series, both men finally faced each other. That night, Goldberg shocked everyone by squashing Lesnar. Originally, he was supposed to lose this match and disappear from WWE again.

Goldberg defeated The Fiend for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown 2020. Many reports said that Bray Wyatt was going to win this match, but Goldberg pushed for a win at the last minute. However, those reports weren’t true.

During an interview, last year, Goldberg said that he doesn’t book his matches. He just goes out there and does his job without complaining.

Jericho replied by grabbing him in a front-face lock. He didn’t let go until others separated them. Shortly after their fight, they buried the hatchet and became good friends.

1 He Really Hated The Gillberg Character

Gillberg

In the Attitude Era, WWE introduced Gillberg to the fans as a parody of Goldberg. The former Universal Champion really hated this gimmick, so much so, that he even claimed he wanted to kill him.

However, those feelings changed sometime after. While Goldberg may not like Gillberg too much, at least he doesn’t hate him as much as before.
