Lip actually has had meaningful romantic relationships but some of them have really haunted him for a while. Karen Jackson comes to mind, as well as Mandy Milkovich but both of them were never really the right girls for Lip.

But, in the end, Lip was sucked into this chaotic neighborhood because it never left him. It stayed there, embedded deep inside his heart, which meant he literally threw everything that was offered to him as far away from him as possible.

Just like his brothers and sisters, Lip doesn't share a good relationship with Frank and one can argue that Lip has proper hatred against his father. Despite that, Lip came close to becoming just like his father, when he was going through a tough phase in his life but he pulled through.

And that, in fact, made him hate Frank even more because unlike Lip, Frank continued on his merry way disregarding anything that stood in his path.

Lip, for a very long time, didn't have a best friend but when he was at his absolute worst, Brad was there to pick him up and Lip did the same thing for him.

They were brought together, thanks to their addictions and soon, they became very good friends, who share many things in common. Other than Brad, Lip always relies on Ian. The brothers share a very close relationship with each other.

Lip and Fiona are two of the people on the show who have had a very tough time with their personal lives and when Lip suffered a setback both in his personal and professional life, he was drawn towards alcohol.

Yes, Lip Gallagher has a "hero" complex because he thinks he is better than everyone else and he wants to save everyone, even if it means it will cost him on a mental level. He didn't back Fiona when she tried to find herself a decent avenue to work in. He thought she'd fail because he is the genius in the Gallagher house.

He also supposedly tried to save Karen from herself and then he tried to save the neighborhood from a pedophile. He really does a lot of saving on the south side.

1 Does He Have An "Obsession" Problem?

Lip actually obsesses on a lot of things, ranging from relationships to daily thoughts. He just can't let go of them. When he was young, he couldn't let go of Karen, even though, deep down, he knew she was not right for him.

Then he did the same thing with Helene. He became too deeply attached and didn't let go of her. Thankfully, now he has seen some of his problems and he is working on fixing them. But his obsession with little things might never leave him.
