10 Funniest AEW Memes That Will Make You Laugh
All Elite Wrestling is the biggest thing going on in pro wrestling these days -- it’s brand new and it’s providing much needed major-league competition to the industry leader, WWE. Wrestling fans love to cook up fresh memes based on whatever’s happening on TV, and with a lot of attention surrounding AEW, there’s bound to be a lot of memes to go along with it.

Anticipating an influx of fan-made AEW viral content, we’ve kept a close eye on the online joke output of internet wrestling fans and put together a group of ten AEW memes to give you the chuckles, guffaws, and chortles you need to get to the bottom of this list.
10 The Orange Cassidy Challenge
Dolly Parton Challenge is a massively popular posting trend -- started by the Queen of Dollywood herself! -- where you arrange four pictures of yourself corresponding to which social media sites they’d be most appropriate for, namely LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder. Orange Cassidy rarely changes his expression, so when you subject him to this challenge, you get the above incongruous meme. The stoicism of Cassidy is always funny, but we have to give massive props to @AllElite_Meme for using a picture of Cassidy without a jacket for the Tinder quadrant.
9 “We Know Who That Is!”
AEW tends to follow in the footsteps of World Championship Wrestling -- the explosive name, the gray ring mat, classic WCW mainstays like Tony Schiavone, and the fact that they’re on TNT, among many other things. Jon Moxley was the big shocking debut at the first official AEW pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, and the creator of this meme astutely remembered that WCW’s surprise debut on the first episode Monday Nitro was Lex Luger, who also jumped ship from WWE (then WWF). Clever stuff, but we’re especially happy that the Photoshopper left in Luger’s mullet.
8 Panic! At the Jericho
Jericho’s spent much of his wrestling career dipping his toes into looking silly with messy top knots and a scarf with no shirt below it. Once he broke free of WWE and began challenging the stars of NJPW, he started dressing like some kind of crazed gothic scarecrow (?).

Thankfully he’s brought that look over to the States, where he frequently wears ridiculous jackets and stupid hats like the one above. Finally someone realized this is vaguely reminiscent of the circus-themed gothic pop-punk band Panic! At the Disco and memed on it appropriately. Never change, Jericho, except to look weirder.
7 The Opposite of @shutupexcalibur
AEW’s been on television for less than a year, and audiences have already come to notice the tics and common phrases of the commentary team. A particular favorite is former indie wrestler turned PWG commentator turned AEW commentator Excalibur’s call of “Tope Con Hello!” whenever a wrestler pulls off the Tope Con Hilo dive to the floor. The combination of wrestling and The Simpsons for meme purposes is always a gold mine, and Twitter user @ReneusMeister’s use of the “Say the Line, Bart!” meme to poke a little fun at Excalibur’s go-to call makes for a perfect match.
6 A Little Bit of the Bubbly
The night Chris Jericho beat Hangman Adam Page to become inaugural AEW World Champion at All Out, he staged a one-man celebration where he growled the phrase “a little bit of the bubbly” while brandishing a champagne bottle, and suddenly a meme was born. The “Guys Literally Only Want One Thing” tweet was an instant classic itself when it came to memetic value, as posters were quick to come up with absurd things for guys to literally only want, and so the combination of that and “A little bit of the bubbly” is a powerful intersection of memes.
5 Orange Bryan
It’s tough to imagine a serendipitous discovery greater than when Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1942, but Twitter user @iLikeJason_ came close when he stumbled upon the world-changing revelation that WWE’s Daniel Bryan looks kind of like Orange Cassidy, especially when you take a photo of him and paste on glasses, a denim jacket, and Orange Cassidy’s hair. If you’re asking why this meme is so important, consider this: there is now undeniable proof that there is no actual difference between a “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chant and a dispassionate thumbs-up.
4 The Drunk Nightmare, Cody
Besides dressing like a Canadian, fedora-clad Eric Draven by choice, Jericho’s other wrestling-related concern seems to involve borrowing a nearby camera for selfish, entirely jerk-based reasons. This one time he grabbed a camera and snapped a picture of himself gloating over a beat-up Cody in what proved to be a pretty awesome shot.

An evocative picture is pretty easy to turn into an unrelated meme, and so a quick caption as it showed up on Wrestling Memes recontextualized this moment into something broadly relatable -- a photographic reminder from a hectic night of drinking.
3 Saw It Coming
If there’s one thing any AEW fan could have predicted from the very beginning, it was MJF’s inevitable betrayal of his mentor and so-called best friend, Cody. MJF is a heel with no redeeming qualities as a human being, and most wrestling friendships exist so one of them can turn on the other, so with MJF it was simply a matter of when. With that in mind, it’s also totally predictable that someone would Photoshop the moment into a Top 10 Anime List meme, but that doesn’t make the effort any less funny.
2 No Fists, Just Memes
Any time there’s a wrestler on the WWE roster who’s either perceived as being underutilized or openly disgruntled with their position in the company, wrestling fans begin to anticipate a Jon Moxley-esque jump over to AEW. The Revival -- Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson -- fit both criteria and are known to be one of The Young Bucks “gets” for AEW, so everyone seems to be itching for the pair to finally free themselves of their WWE shackles and bring it on down to Tag Teamville, hence this incredibly funny take on the Eric Andre meme.
1 More Like Chaotic Great
Simpsons memes are the best because they’re so universally applicable, but the other best kind of meme is the Alignment Chart, which requires careful consideration of the subjects in question in order to best evaluate where they sit on the chart. It’s a difficult meme to nail because sometimes the creator’s sensibilities don’t line up with that of the beholder, but when it’s carefully considered and just about combining rows of words with columns of words, it becomes machinal. This particular alignment chart, by Tumblr user Emi, not only features the more entertaining members of AEW’s roster (mostly the silly midcard guys), but the combination of words (“Feral Baby,” “Absolute Dumbass”) are comedy gold.
