WWE Very Much In The Picture To Sign Will Ospreay, AEW Deal Far From Guaranteed
Highlights
- Will Ospreay will become a free agent in 2024 and has the opportunity to sign with any wrestling promotion, including WWE.
- Reports suggest WWE is interested in signing Ospreay and talks may have already begun between the two parties.
- Ospreay and Seth Rollins have expressed mutual interest in having a dream match, which could finally happen once Ospreay is a free agent.
CM Punk might be the hottest free agent in wrestling for the time being, but come February 1, 2024, that all changes. That's the date when Will Ospreay is officially no longer tied to New Japan and can sign a deal with whatever wrestling promotion he likes. Provided all wrestling promotions want him, of course, and it sounds like they do. The Brit will likely have his pick of wrestling companies when his contract expires, and despite strong links to AEW and Impact, WWE is very much still in the picture.
WWE Is In The Picture
That's according to new reports from both Fightful Select and Wrestling Observer Radio (via Cultaholic). Fightful has reported that even though a move to WWE once seemed to be a pipedream, the New Japan star has opened his mind and there has even been a suggestion that the two parties have already begun talks. WOR added to that report, confirming "WWE is absolutely in the picture" when it comes to the race to sign Ospreay.

"Just put it this way, WWE is absolutely in the picture... AEW is in the picture. It's whoever's going to give him the best offer," Dave Meltzer said on WOR. The wrestling journalist also noted the wrestlers on either side with whom Ospreay can have potential rematches that might tempt him either way. On the WWE side of things you have AJ Styles, who Ospreay has a lot of respect for, and above all else, Seth Rollins.
A Dream Match With Rollins
Ospreay and Rollins further fanned the flames of rumors suggesting the former will become a WWE Superstar in 2024 right after the latter successfully defended the World Title at Crown Jewel on Saturday. Ospreay replied to WWE's tweet confirming Rollins had retained with an eyes emoji. The World Champion replied to Ospreay's tweet, letting the soon-to-be free agent know that "the water is warm".
The Ospreay-Rollins dream match has been one both stars appear to have wanted for a while. The pair started going back on forth with one another in 2019, but since each of them has been attached to rival companies since then, they've not been able to settle their differences in the ring. Rollins was never going to leave WWE, but now Ospreay has the chance to sign with pretty much any company he wants, we might finally see that dream match, five years after it was first teased.
