WWE SmackDown is, without a doubt, one of the most important shows in wrestling history. Over the years SmackDown has been full of great matches and memorable moments, entertaining millions of fans week after week.

The first 10 episodes of SmackDown were obviously pivotal, but truth be told, in terms of quality they were nothing extraordinary. Likewise, among the first 10 main events there weren't any truly fantastic matches, but rather decent bouts and even a couple of forgettable matches. With that being said, right below are WWE SmackDown’s first 10 main events, ranked from worst to best.
10 The Rock 'N' Sock Connection Vs. Shane McMahon & Triple H (Third Episode)
This time, The Rock 'n' Sock Connection (The Rock and Mankind) defended the World Tag Team Titles against Shane McMahon and Triple H, who were accompanied by Chyna. The bout lasted just under seven minutes, and frankly, there's nothing special to see here other than an overbooked mess. The bout ended when Mr. Ass attacked Triple H, allowing The Rock to hit his Rock Bottom and People's Elbow combination to pin Triple H. The best of the match was how The Rock and Triple H handled the crowd.
9 Triple H Vs. The Rock (Sixth Episode)
The September 23, 1999, episode of SmackDown focused too much on Triple H, who participated in five matches (yes, you read that right), including the main event. Triple H and The Rock collided in a Brahma Bullrope Strap match with The British Bulldog as special referee. The Rock was about to win the match, but unexpectedly The British Bulldog attacked him and Triple H took the opportunity to perform a Pedigree on The Rock and take the win. Overall, it was a pretty bad match.
8 Triple H Vs. The British Bulldog (Seventh Episode)
A week later, The Rock was the special referee for the World Heavyweight Title match between Triple H and The British Bulldog. In terms of wrestling, this matchup was pretty lackluster, but The Rock made it fun to watch. The Brahma Bull pretended not to see the covers, then joined the commentators, and in the end attacked both Triple H and The British Bulldog, then walked away with the belt. After this crazy fun, the match was declared a no contest.
7 Steve Austin & The Rock Vs. The Undertaker & Triple H (First Episode)
On April 29, 1999, the first episode of SmackDown aired, and the wrestlers who had the great responsibility of being in the main event were "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker and Triple H. The match was going great, with top-notch action here and there and intense sequences. However, after five minutes, Steve Austin and The Rock won the match via disqualification due to the other members of the Corporate Ministry interfering.
6 The Rock 'N' Sock Connection Vs. The Big Show & The Undertaker (Fourth Episode)
In the main event of the September 9, 1999, episode of SmackDown, The Rock and Mankind defended the World Tag Team Titles against The Big Show and The Undertaker in a Buried Alive match. Obviously, it wasn't exactly a wrestling match, but it was a pretty entertaining battle, with some chaotic brawling.

Triple H showed up, hit Big Show with the sledgehammer, and then buried Mankind Alive. Thus, Big Show and The Undertaker became Tag Team Champions.
5 Vince McMahon Vs. Triple H (Fifth Episode)
This was one of those crazy Attitude Era nights, as Vince McMahon himself faced off against Triple H in a World Heavyweight Title match, with Shane McMahon as special referee. Triple H retaliated against Vince mercilessly, as the champion had been waiting a long time to get his hands on Vince. Triple H was tearing Vince McMahon apart, until "Stone Cold" Steve Austin showed up and hit a Stunner on Triple H, also helping Mr. McMahon make the cover for him to become the new champion.
4 The Rock 'N' Sock Connection Vs. The New Age Outlaws (Ninth Episode)
This was the go-home SmackDown before No Mercy 1999, and it was a pretty good episode. The main event featured The Rock 'n' Sock Connection challenging The New Age Outlaws to a rematch for the World Tag Team Championship. It was a pretty good match, fast-paced and with exciting sequences. Despite their deteriorated friendship, The Rock and Mankind managed to win the match and become Tag Team Champions for the third and final time.
3 Triple H Vs. The Rock (Second Episode)
The main event of the August 26, 1999, episode of SmackDown featured World Heavyweight Champion Triple H taking on The Rock, with Shawn Michaels and Shane McMahon as special referees.

This was an amazing battle from start to finish, with outstanding performances from both Triple H and The Rock. The match went back and forth, until The Rock managed to deliver a Rock Bottom on Triple H, but when The Rock was setting up the People's Elbow, Michaels hit him with the Sweet Chin Music. Triple H then performed a Pedigree on The Rock and pinned him for the 1-2-3 and retained the title.
2 The Rock Vs. Val Venis (Eighth Episode)
In the main event of the October 7, 1999, edition of SmackDown, The Rock and Val Venis collided in a No Disqualification match. This was a 10-minute affair with solid in-ring action. Val Venis and The Rock did a great job here. The Rock thought defeating Val Venis would be easy, but the latter ended up putting The Rock in trouble. Mankind accidentally hit The Rock with a chair, which ironically seemed to give The Brahma Bull the momentum to get the win after hitting a Rock Bottom to both his partner and Val Venis.
1 Steve Austin Vs. Val Venis (10th Episode)
You probably forgot that Val Venis main-evented SmackDown against The Rock, but he also main-evented the show against Steve Austin as well. Once again, Venis had an amazing performance, going toe-to-toe with Steve Austin. Venis showed tremendous offense, but the Rattlesnake was simply on another level, so no matter how hard Val Venis tried, he was eventually stunned and Steve Austin took the win. Overall, a very good match that no one talks about.
