WWE Shares What Happened After NXT Abruptly Went Off The Air

This week's NXT closed with a no-disqualification grudge match between Bron Breakker and Von Wagner. Breakker has felt a little like he has been treading water in NXT since he lost the title, but that main roster call-up still hasn't come despite a brief rivalry with Seth Rollins. Turning his attention to Wagner instead, Breakker beat his opponent on Tuesday night, but the former champion wasn't satisfied with simply picking up a win.

NXT Cuts To Black

Breakker continued to use weapons to dismantle Wagner after the bell had rung, culminating in dropping the steel steps on Wagner's head. Except the fans watching at home didn't get to see that part. As Breakker dropped the steps, while the announcers and fans could still be heard, the picture cut to black. The feed never returned and the show unceremoniously came to an end.

WWE has since shared an update, revealing what happened to Wagner after the show cut to black. A short clip shared on social media shows Wagner being taken out of the arena on a stretcher, his head covered in bandages with quite a bit of blood visible. The post let fans know Wagner was being taken to hospital and that they would be updated further on his condition whenever there's an update to give.

Actual Injury Or Part Of The Show?

Fans have been discussing the legitimacy of the angle and the injury ever since, and they seem pretty split. There are a few indicators suggesting something really did go wrong, but also plenty of clues to suggest this is all an elaborate angle. It seems unlikely WWE would use fake blood to make it look like Wagner is bleeding, and some fans pointed to the use of the word hospital. WWE has historically preferred the term local medical facility to prevent fans from flocking to the nearest hospital to check their favorite stars are okay.

On the flip side, Breakker seriously injuring Wagner in the way that he did would perfectly fit in with the story NXT has been trying to tell. Wagner has had problems accepting himself for who he is, and just as he did, he suffers an injury that has potentially disfigured him, taking him all the way back to square one. Saving the blood for when the show had gone off the air is also a hint that this was all a part of the show. Stay tuned to TheSportster and WWE's social media channels for updates on Wagner, whether they be real or part of an angle.
