WWE Reveals Location & Date For Royal Rumble 2022

WWE's annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view will make its next stop in St. Louis, Missouri.

On Monday, WWE.com confirmed a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Royal Rumble 2022 will take place in The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis on Saturday, Jan. 29. It was noted by WWE that this will be mark "the largest venue to host the event".

Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series are WWE's "big four" events, and all of the pay-per-views traditionally run on Sundays. But WrestleMania 37 was a two-day event that ran on the Apr. 10-11 weekend in Tampa Bay, Florida., and this year's SummerSlam event was also held on a Saturday (Aug. 21) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Royal Rumble 2022 will be held on a Saturday as well, and it could very well have to do with the NFL's 2021-22 postseason schedule.

It was previously reported that the Royal Rumble could be held in the month of February for the first time ever, but that's not going to be the case after all.

Usually, the Royal Rumble is held on the Sunday between the NFL's Conference Championship weekend and the Super Bowl. But the league expanded to 17 regular season games this year, so the Divisional Round will be played on the Jan. 22-23 weekend, and the NFC and AFC Championship Games will run on Jan. 30.

So for WWE, it obviously made sense to run the Royal Rumble on a Satruday where they won't have to compete with NFL postseason games.

The Last Royal Rumble Event In St. Louis

Coincidentally, Royal Rumble 2022 will mark exactly 10 years since the event was last held in St. Louis — on Jan. 29, 2012. The show was held at the Scottrade Center (now Enterprise Center, home of the NHL's St. Louis Blues). Sheamus was the winner of the 30-man Royal Rumble, and he went on to defeat Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVIII.
