WWE Might Be Changing Name Of The SmackDown Women's Championship

There has been no indication from WWE that a title name change is in the works, but fans picked up on the sheer amount of times Ronda Rousey called the SmackDown Women's Championship the SmackDown Title on Friday. During her promo and Open Challenge segment, Rousey referred to the Women's Title as the SmackDown Championship Title on multiple occasions. Many believe that could be a sign WWE is toying with the idea of renaming the belt.

According to a couple of reports, appears WWE is either leaning toward changing the name of the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Either that or Rousey has a really hard time calling the title by its official name. In the past, she's been vocal about not wanting to include the word "women's" in the description of the championship saying on one episode of SmackDown a few weeks ago, “You can call me your new Women’s SmackDown Champion. SmackDown Women’s Champion? Why do we even say ‘women’ in it anyway?"

Rousey might be pushing WWE to let her call the title the SmackDown Championship. It's not clear if WWE has given her the go-ahead, but during Friday's show, Rousey called it that SmackDown Championship at least three times. Once might be a mistake, but three times indicates that she knew what she was doing. Even Pat McAfee said during commentary, and following Raquel Rodriguez accepting the open challenge, “This is for the SmackDown Championship… right!?”

Will WWE Correct Rousey Next Week?

With Rousey now the SmackDown Women's Champion and Charlotte out of the picture, it appears she'll be holding the title for some time. If she keeps issuing open challenges and keeps winning them, that's a number of appearances on Friday night where she'll call the title the SmackDown Championship Title. It will be intriguing to see if WWE corrects her for next week or she keeps using that term.
