WWE Has Revived Raw Underground For Some Reason

When you have hours and hours of live programming every single week and you need to come up with things to fill all that time, not everything is going to be a hit. WWE and those who run it know that better than anyone. It has had plenty of misses among its hits over the years, and most fans would likely agree that Raw Underground was one of those misses.

Raw Underground Returns

Running for around two months in 2020, Raw Underground was basically a backstage fight club hosted by Shane McMahon. It disappeared as mysteriously as it arrived without leaving much of a mark, which is why it has come as quite a surprise to hear the segment will be making a return. Even more surprising, it won't be returning to Raw, but it will seemingly still keep its original name.

The first mention of Raw Underground on WWE TV for the better part of three years happened on this week's NXT. Speaking backstage with Eddie Thorpe, Damon Kemp issued a challenge for a Raw Underground match on NXT in two weeks. Thorpe seemed just as surprised as everyone watching to hear the match type but eventually accepted the challenge once he had confirmed what he had heard was correct.

Where's Dabba Kato?

Thorpe and Kemp are interesting choices for this match. Not only because they aren't exactly the most recognizable stars in NXT right now, but also because there's currently a wrestler in NXT who was pretty synonymous with Raw Underground. When I think of the ill-fated segment, the first names that spring to mind are Braun Strowman, and NXT's Dabba Kato.

Perhaps Kato will get involved in some way. This may even be a way to finally introduce Gable Steveson into the mix. If you didn't already know, Kemp is Steveson's brother. While not as decorated as his gold medal-winning sibling, Kemp has some wrestling accolades of his own. That should mean he beats Thorpe in a Raw Underground match pretty handily in a couple of weeks.
