Few heels are better in WWE right now than Grayson Waller. After a great run on NXT, Waller was called up in this year's draft to SmackDown. He immediately made an impact, having a match with Edge, attacking The Rock on social media, then getting into it with Swifties on social media as well when he went after Taylor Swift. Waller has the skill to get under fans' skin. He's the ultimate heel, one so good at being irritating, and who refuses to break kayfabe, that you can't help but respect his ability. For one fan over the weekend, however, he took Grayson Waller's heelish antics personally and tried to attack the WWE superstar.
Waller currently finds himself in a tag team with Austin Theory. At a weekend live event in Newark, Delaware, the team was set to take on the combination of Odyssey Jones and Cameron Grimes. Before their match, Waller cut a promo on a fan, with his words cutting so deep that the fan jumped the railing and tried to get at Waller. Security managed to tackle the fan and drag him away before he could get to Waller, but Grayson was unphased, smiling and walking around the ring area with some extra pep to his step. Waller and Theory went on to win their match.
Grayson Waller Is Everything WWE Wishes Austin Theory Was
Austin Theory hasn't quite lived up to his potential on the WWE main roster, while Grayson Waller has been on fire in NXT and now SmackDown. There Is A Long History Of Fans Trying To Attack Wrestlers
From the moment Grayson Waller arrived on SmackDown, it was evident that he had the potential to be WWE's next great heel. There had to be some smiles over the weekend that Waller could get to a fan in such a way, but there was also the possibility for something very dangerous to happen.
MJF was another heel who could get fans so riled up that they'd try to attack him, as once happened during a live Dynamite. Fan attacks used to be more common in the territory days, when kayfabe was alive and well, and fans truly believed that the heels they saw in the ring were the evil people they portrayed. There were some fan attacks during the 90s, like the infamous live event that saw Steve Austin attacked by a fan, only for Triple H to pound the guy. While it has mostly become a thing of the past, there have been some scary moments in recent years, such as when a fan jumped in the ring and attacked Randy Orton, when another knocked Bret Hart down from behind at the WWE Hall of Fame, and when a crazed fan tackled Seth Rollins on Raw.
Thankfully, security was there to stop this fan from causing harm. Don't be surprised if Grayson Waller tries to get some heat off of it on social media.
