WWE 2K22 May Revive GM Mode For The First Time Since 2008

A new report claims WWE 2K22 will include fan-favorite feature, GM Mode. It has been missing from WWE games for over a decade.

A lot of fans were disappointed to discover that WWE 2K22 will not be here until March of next year. The typical release window for WWE games is the fall. However, after a year off, the studio clearly wants a little extra time to make sure it doesn't make the same mistakes it did with WWE 2K20.

GM Mode May Be Coming Back

WWE 2K's next offering really needs to be its best. Anything less than a terrific wrestling game might well be disastrous. Very little outside of a few snippets of the game has been revealed so far. However, a new report from Sports Gamers Online claims sources close to WWE 2K22 have revealed the new title will revive a well-loved mode that has been lying dormant for more than a decade.

The mode in question is GM Mode. A feature that allowed players to assume the role of a show's General Manager. You could pick your roster via a draft, book shows, negotiate deals, and had to make sure whichever brand you were in charge of beat the other in the ratings. It was eventually replaced by Universe Mode which has remained in place until now.

WWE 2K22 Needs To Be Big

“The fans clearly wanted it, and the team knew that they [had] the ammo to get it approved and in,” a source apparently told SGO. Since the team at WWE 2K has had an additional 18 months to create WWE 2K22, it's believed those piecing it together have had the chance for the first time in years to revive GM Mode and do it justice. The last time it was available in a WWE game was SmackDown vs. Raw 2008.

WWE 2K22 is currently slated to launch in March 2022. It could potentially face some stiff competition on the video game front for the first time in decades. AEW revealed new gameplay footage of its debut console game earlier this week, showing off Jungle Boy in action. If comments Kenny Omega made a whole ago remain true, AEW's game will be launching at roughly the same time as WWE 2K22.
