Highlights

  • Key Takeaways:
  • Tessa Blanchard's wrestling career has suffered due to her reputation of burning bridges and causing controversy in multiple promotions.
  • Accusations of racism and bullying from fellow wrestlers have tarnished Blanchard's image and resulted in a loss of support from fans.
  • Despite becoming the first female wrestler to win the Impact World Championship, Blanchard's unprofessional behavior, including holding the title hostage, led to her firing and a lack of interest from major promotions like WWE and AEW.

Tessa Blanchard has become one of those stars who dug their own grave and ruined their wrestling career. There’s no doubt that Blanchard is a super-talented wrestler. She has proven that time and time again. But, it’s also true that she burned bridges in every major promotion that she has been part of. Most fans won’t even have to ask the question: What went wrong with Tessa Blanchard? They already know the answer. It was a very public affair after all.

Fans remember how Tessa Blanchard had everything in her arsenal to become one of the top female wrestlers in the world. Up until a few years back, everyone would have said the same. But now? Well, no one wants to work with her. If promotions aren’t willing to take you in, you’re never going to become successful in this industry.

One thing that wrestlers, or any other public figure for that matter, need to understand is that it's very hard to keep things a secret in today’s world. Back in the day, you could very well keep people’s mouths shut and get away with things, but now, with the internet, it takes one click to post on the web, and it’s game over. You may have a clean image in front of everyone, but behind the scenes, there are still victims who know what you did, and when those people come forward with their stories, it’s almost always an instant career killer. That's what happened with Tessa Blanchard when wrestlers like Chelsea Green, Priscilla Kelly, and many others threw out multiple allegations against her of racism and bullying. Tessa couldn't find a way out of it because the fans weren’t forgiving.

On the day of January 11, 2020, Blanchard tweeted, asking other female wrestlers to support each other, and this led to a series of tweets against her filled with all kinds of severe allegations. Many wrestlers came forward and called out her hypocrisy, and while Tessa did try to deny those, the number of tweets against her was just way too many.

Allysin Kay, for instance, revealed that in 2017 Tessa called La Rosa Negra the N-word and spat at her, and wrestlers like Shanna, Rebel, and Chelsea Green confirmed the story. Green, for instance, tweeted and said Tessa “put down, bullied, and belittled countless female coworkers, including me.” A few hours after Tessa’s original tweet, wrestler Isla Dawn tweeted that Tessa also did some of these things with her and even tried to get her blackballed from promotions. Oh, and all of this happened a day before Tessa’s match against Sami Callihan at Hard to Kill 2020.

Impact Wrestling Made Tessa Blanchard Their World Champion

Fired In 2020

At Hard to Kill, Blanchard defeated Sami to win the Impact World Championship and became the first female wrestler ever to do so. This was hard to believe for some fans because Tessa had so much real-life heat on her from so many people going into the fight, but Impact Wrestling ignored all of that and took a big risk with her. They probably regretted it a few months later when Tessa tried to hold their title hostage.

She was scheduled to defend the belt at Slammiversary, but she wouldn’t cooperate with Impact and send taped promos to them, and even no-showed television tapings. This was the last straw for Impact, and they released her. Her contract was set to expire just a few days after on June 30. That was it for Tessa and Impact – a historic title victory, overshadowed by serious allegations and unprofessionalism.

No Major Wrestling Promotion Wants To Work With Tessa Blanchard

WWE & AEW Aren't Interested

Tessa Blanchard makes her entrance in NXT Cropped

Tessa already had heat with WWE, due to an incident some years back. Even AEW wasn’t interested in working with one of the “hottest” free agents. She was her own enemy yet again when she got into a dispute with WoW. More recently, Tessa appears to have been banned from another promotion: AAA.

Konnan also confirmed one gossip for fans, that she cheated on her ex-husband, and it’s why he won’t bring her back. While Tessa is trying to redeem herself now – La Rosa Negra shared a picture with Blanchard earlier this year, and she seemed to have forgiven her – it’s probably way too late for that. No major promotion would want to work with her, given her past issues, no matter how talented she might be. If neither of the three major promotions in the US (WWE, AEW, and Impact) is going to work with Blanchard, it’s safe to say that she’ll never become a major superstar everyone believed she would be.
