Why Logan Paul Vs Roman Reigns Is The Worst Match In The Tribal Chief's Universal Title Run

Quick Links

Roman Reigns' run as the WWE Universal Champion over the last two years has been filled with incredible matches and iconic feuds. His bouts with the likes of Jey Uso, Brock Lesnar, and Kevin Owens have all delivered in a major way, and ensured his run as the Tribal Chief has been an all-time great one.

The Big Dog's upcoming meeting with Logan Paul at Crown Jewel probably won't be up to those standards. In fact, don't be surprised if the title match between the two in Saudi Arabia is actually the worst match in the Head of the Table's entire run as champion.

Even before the pair step inside the squared circle, there's already so much working against their favor, that it's hard to see the meeting being anything other than a low point in Reigns' historic reign.

The Outcome Of Roman Reigns Vs Logan Paul Is Incredibly Predictable

While it was fairly obvious who would emerge victorious during Reigns' feuds with The Usos and Owens, there hasn't been a match during his reign so far where the result is more predictable than his contest with Paul. While the YouTube sensation has impressed wrestling fans with his in-ring work so far, and his commitment to the business can't be denied, there is just no way he'll have his arm raised once all is said and done in Saudi Arabia.

Sure, if this was any other world champion, the prospect of a celebrity of Paul's level winning the big one might seem rather plausible, especially during Vince McMahon's time running WWE, but this isn't any ordinary champion and McMahon is long gone. Instead, Reigns is embarking on one of the best title runs in company history and the choice of his eventual successor will be carefully planned out. There's just no way Paul will be the man given the honor. Whoever eventually beats Reigns has a lot to live up to, and with names like Cody Rhodes being speculated, Paul would be such a disappointing conclusion to his run and is something Triple H knows better than to do.

Logan Paul Has Done Nothing To Deserve A World Title Shot

While Paul has impressed fans in his two outings in WWE so far, that's the problem with his upcoming championship match; he's had just two matches. Ever. One major issue with the match is that the YouTube star just hasn't really done anything to deserve it.

Miz vs Logan Paul Cropped

There was once a time when a world championship match in WWE was saved for the biggest and most deserving stars in the company, those that had fought through tooth and nail to really earn a chance at the big one. The likes of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Daniel Bryan had to earn their stripes before they were finally afforded the opportunity, but Paul has just been gifted a shot off the back of two matches. Having him wrestle for WWE's top prize not only lowers the world championship's prestige, but it's also a slap in the face of the talent in the back who have been working hard all year long, without even a hint at an opportunity of such magnitude.

Logan Paul Just Isn't A Likable Babyface

One major reason Reigns has had such a successful championship run is due to his heel turn that started back in 2020. The Tribal Chief works better as a detestable villain, and all of his memorable feuds have seen fans clamoring to see his comeuppance. The issue with Paul challenging the champion is that he's not a very likable babyface.

Sure, his feud with a villain like The Miz saw fans take his side, but it's going to be hard for WWE to get fans rooting for him against Reigns. It's a bad look for both Paul and WWE when he's been handpicked as the babyface challenger for a champion as villainous as the Head of the Table, yet the fans will likely side for the bad guy, and celebrate his eventual victory.

Professional wrestling has followed a very simple formula since its early inception. There are good guys and bad guys, and you're supposed to want the heroes to overcome the villains, yet that won't be the case at Crown Jewel, and it just makes for an awkward contest for all involved. Couple that with the fact that Reigns' victory is all but guaranteed and how little Paul actually did to earn the match, and it's easily already shaping up to be the worst match in the Tribal Chief's Universal Championship reign so far.
