Why AJ Styles Is The Best Partner For Omos

In the middle of last year, when Raw went Underground, Shane McMahon was often hanging around with an unnamed but massive human being. He’d also show up as the Bug Ninja running around with Akira Tozowa. But once Underground went under, Omos emerged and stood alongside AJ Styles.

Ever since, the seven-foot-three, 400-pound mountain of a man has been The Phenomenal One’s personal Colossus. With only a little over two and a half years of experience in the wrestling industry, the big man is right where he needs to be at this moment in his career, learning from and partnering with one of, if not the absolute best wrestler in the world today.

AJ Has Been Everywhere

AJ And Omos Win The Raw Tag Titles

At 44 years old, there is a lot of wisdom about the business that AJ can impart to Omos. After all he’s been wrestling since 1998 when the young Nigerian native was just four years old! Styles has been in NWA, WCW, TNA, ROH, New Japan, and a veritable alphabet soup of random independent promotions, all before he finally came to WWE in 2016.

In that time, he’s been around virtually every legend in the business and every top guy across every promotion in existence today. Behind the scenes, he’s a wholesome family man - there are a lot of life lessons as well as wrestling lessons The Face That Runs The Place can impart to his personal Colossus.

Omos Now Has Credibility

It’s not a government secret that Vince McMahon loves big men. Plenty of memes have circulated of Vince practically in ecstasy over the sizes of some his most enduring superstars and legends. But as great a track record that McMahon has had at producing giants, the WWE has had its fair share of clunkers.

Names like the Giant Gonzalez and Nathan Jones can spring to mind. But that’s only when they’re skyrocketed to the moon. Putting Omos with AJ gives him credibility. When you come in paired up with one of the top guys, it instantly puts a spotlight on you. When you’re seven foot tall, you need the kind of spotlight that AJ Styles commands.

The Two Dudes With Attitude

AJ And Omos Vs Nash And Michaels

With his ability to have an amazing match with anyone at any time, AJ Styles has been compared to The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels a lot during his WWE run. For several years during his first WWE run, Michaels was untouchable and generally accepted as the best in the world, as it was with AJ’s first few years in WWE.

Kevin Nash was once brought in by Shawn and thanks to that partnership, was forever linked with HBK and of course Big Daddy Cool became a legend in his own right. Whether Omos ever has the kind of career that Kevin Nash had definitely remains to be seen, the comparisons between the two big man - little man tag teams was almost immediate. Omos even won the tag titles in his very first match!

It’s Phenomenal For AJ, Too

Omos Carrying AJ Styles

Sometimes when a superstar doesn’t need a heater but has one anyway, it makes it feel more special. AJ Styles has never needed a big man as backup, but has had plenty over the years, seemingly each one bigger than the last! After last year's “Boneyard Match” at WrestleMania and subsequent release of his friends, The Good Brothers, Styles seemed a little stagnant and the fact that he was a little perturbed by their release wasn’t helping either. With Omos in his corner, it breathes new life in AJ’s character. Much like the cocky and talented kid who already has everything and then gets the brand new car, AJ was already the arrogant superstar who could back up anything he said. With Omos, Styles now has someone backing up all the jaw-jacking that he does.

Some of the best pairings in wrestling don’t always seem like they should make a lot of sense, the odd couple pairing of Omos and AJ Styles works best when the two are just having casual conversations about what’s going on in the ring. But in the ring, The Colossus is learning from the best, which means he's learning lessons from The Phenomenal One that will serve him for the rest of his career - just don’t expect him to do any 450 splashes anytime soon.
