Who Is Abraham Ancer's Caddie?
Abraham Ancer's caddie situation seems to have changed over last couple of years. Back in 2021 we noticed a change in that his regular caddie Dale Vallely, wasn't on the bag citing visa issues back home in Canada which sidelined him indefinitely.
In three starts since Vallely had to take this break at the start of 2021, Ancer employed the services of veteran caddie Dean Elliott (missed cut at the Genesis Open), Roberto Diaz (T18 in the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession) and finally coach JP Solis (T22 at the Players).
Ancer then turned up to the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Matchplay with Benji Thompson, the former caddie of Lexi Thompson and Kevin Chappell. Speaking at the time to The Caddie Network, Thompson said; “As far as I understand, it’s a visa issue, but I don’t know any of the details. I’m committed to Abe as long as it lasts.
“I am super excited about the opportunity to work for a world-class player and such a nice guy,” Thompson added. “I’ve really enjoyed our two days of practice and we are ready to get after it this week.”
The pair continue to work together today.
Vallely had worked for Ancer since the summer of 2016, including a trip back to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017 and his incredible rise in the Official World Golf Ranking, which landed him a spot on the International Team at the 2019 Presidents Cup. But Vallely hasn’t been working for Ancer since a T5 in the American Express back in January 2021.
Vallely is quite the player himself as he is a Canada Tour veteran and he has lots of caddie experience too as he has been doing it for over 10 years. We did expect Vallely to come back onto the bag once the visa issues go sorted but given Thompson has been on the bag for a while now, this doesn't appear to be the case.
