What These Current AEW Wrestlers Look Like Without Their Face Paint Or Masks

Wrestlers often use face paint or masks to either hide their identities or to add some specialty to their overall act. This has been something that has happened for generations in wrestling, whether it be luchadors coming up with cool, unique looks to draw in intrigue to their appearances, surprise debuts remaining masked until the reveal to build suspense, or paint or makeup being added to signify something about their character.

As AEW's roster has continued to grow since 2019, the number of wrestlers that either wear a mask or some sort of face paint has continued to grow, and fans often wonder what those who do opt for this look, actually look like without their face obscured.

11 Fuego Del Sol

For fans of AEW TNT Champion, Sammy Guevara's vlog series on YouTube, Fuego Del Sol has become quite the underdog babyface through that channel's work. Signing with the second half of 2021, Fuego currently is wrestling mostly on AEW Dark.

While Fuego has appeared on Sammy's vlog without his mask, his face is almost always either blurred or covered by his hands, but he has appeared without his mask before. Appearing as an unmasked enhancement talent, Fuego would wrestle on WWE Raw before signing with AEW, and this has offered fans a look under the mask of the Master of the Tornado DDT.

10 Serpentico

Another talent that spends most of his AEW screen-time on AEW Dark or Dark: Elevation, Serpentico has made sporadic appearances on AEW Dynamite, most notably tagging with his Chaos Project partner, Luther, during Chris Jericho's anniversary show.

For fans, some may not be aware that Serpentico spent time wrestling without the Snakeman persona, spending time in Ring of Honor as Jon Cruz.

9 Pres10 Vance

One of AEW's prospects, Preston Vance joined the Dark Order in 2020 after wrestling a few matches unmasked as an enhancement talent. There are numerous pictures of Vance online from broadcasts and backstage footage without his Dark Order mask on.

Time will tell, but for longtime AEW fans, Dark Order members John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and Alan Angels, all spent time under masks before unmasking and wrestling with their bare faces shown, so a time may come when Vance gets to shed the purple and white mask he is seen in.

8 Darby Allin

While Darby Allin's split-face face paint does not do the best job at concealing his identity, that really is not the purpose. Rather, it reflects his real-life story that involves a car accident with his uncle, the painted face representing the half of himself that he says died in that incident.

Rarely appearing on television without his face paint, the times that Darby can normally be seen without the look is during backstage or behind the scenes footage, as well as some older promo videos.

7 Sting

One of the best wrestlers to ever live, Sting has left quite a legacy during his multi-decade wrestling career. Spending time in WCW, TNA, WWE, and now calling AEW home, the man called Sting has done it all.

One thing that Sting has not done in AEW, however, is having shown his real face. TNA fans are the ones who got to see this side of Sting, with the legend removing his iconic face paint during a heel run as part of the Main Event Mafia, often seen sporting suits and sunglasses to complete his new look.

6 Abadon

Arguably one of the most shocking appearance changes comes from the Living Dead Girl of All Elite Wrestling, Abadon. Normally a blonde girl, her disturbing alter ego comes to life on AEW programming, in which she looks like a completely different being.

Outside the ring however, Abadon looks like a perfectly normal person, which is shocking considering all the nightmares she induces with her eerie antics during her entrance and matches, as well as the horror-inspired makeover she undergoes.

5 Danhausen

After becoming an internet sensation amongst wrestling fans, and having a rub with mainstream media in the form of an appearance on Conan O'Brien's podcast, Danhausen finally found himself being #AllElite in early 2022, debuting at AEW Beach Break.

During his interview with Conan, Danhausen would appear out of character and out of his normal makeup, giving fans a proper looked at what he looks like on a normal day, serving as a Very Nice, Very Evil gesture from Danhausen.

4 Luchasaurus

Luchasaurus regularly now gets some of the biggest reactions during AEW Dynamite and Rampage events whenever he and Jungle Boy wrestle, with him often serving as one of the best hot tags in the business.

For fans of the world's smartest dinosaur, Luchasaurus has spent quite a bit of time without his mask on, wrestling in WWE's developmental system as Judas Devlin, and unmasked, regular wrestler, as well as featuring on Big Brother Season 17!

3 Thunder Rosa

For AEW fans, Thunder Rosa has risen severely in popularity since her first appearance in the company during a cross-promotional battle between AEW and NWA, with Rosa holding the NWA Women's Championship in a match against the reigning AEW Women's World Champion, Hikaru Shida.

With Rosa now serving as one of the top babyfaces in AEW's Women's Division, fans might wonder what she looks like without her Day of the Dead-inspired face paint on, and as anyone can see, Rosa looks great with or without the face paint!

2 Rey Fenix

One of the staples of AEW's tag team division, Rey Fenix makes up one half of the Lucha Bros tag-team alongside his brother, Penta El Zero M. Despite wrestling for over 15 years, Fenix has yet to be fully unmasked.

This picture snapped in a convenience store shows the high-flying luchador showing more of his face than normal, though a portion of it is still covered with a lucha-inspired facemask. The day may come when Rey Fenix is fully unmasked during a wrestling angle, but today is not that day.

1 Excalibur

One of the more unique aspects about AEW's commentary team, is long-standing PWG commentator Excalibur, who has never been seen on a broadcast without his Luchador mask on. A former wrestler, Excalibur did indeed wear a mask during his wrestling career.

While fans have speculated what he looks like under the mask, a behind the scenes photo shows Excalibur dawning his everyday human face, allowing fans to see what one of the most talented announcers in all of professional wrestling really looks like.
