However, a name often forgotten when discussing the wrestler-turned-actor transition is Steve Austin. While he didn't have as much success as his Attitude Era rival, he still appeared in several high-profile movies over the years. Along the way, he had some big co-stars as well.

Randy Couture starred alongside Steve Austin and other stars in The Expendables. The film was supposed to be a love letter of sorts to action heroes of the 80s, such as Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and more. The franchise is still running today, with Couture and others expected to return for the fourth movie later this year.

Sadly for Austin, he's not expected to appear, as he died in the first film. For his part, Couture loved working with the wrestler on set and was hopeful he could one-day return. After the release of the first film, he stated:

"He did such a great job. And it was fun getting to hang out with him, and do those scenes. I felt bad. It appeared that he wouldn't get to do the sequel, because he does get killed. But you know Sly! There is always a way to work it out."

9 Joey 'CoCo' Diaz

Joey Diaz from The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard was released in 2005 and was a remake of a 1974 film titled the same. The film featured prisoners playing against prison guards in a game of football. The film is lighthearted and featured names such as Adam Sandler and Chris Rock leading the cast.

However, a lot of wrestlers were also used in the film, with Steve Austin being one of them. Joey Diaz had a supporting role in the film and remarked in an appearance on the wrestler's podcast in 2021 that the former Attitude Era star, alongside others, really liked drinking during downtime. Diaz recalled a story from the set:

"One night I got a knock on my door, and I'd like to say it was [Austin] or Kevin Nash. They said 'Hey, give us the booze in your room'... I said 'Take it', it was $200's worth, and they gave $200 and took every little bottle of booze... [Austin] went out every night, always went down to the lounge."

McIntyre couldn't have been happier with the time he spent on the show. Prior to the final season of the show, the competitor said of Austin in an interview:

"Steve is a hero and idol to many, including me. He’s incredibly powerful in his presence, but at the same time he’s very polite and genuine when you talk with him."

Steve Austin and Danny Trejo were the two main stars of the 2012 film Recoil. In the movie, the two action heroes worked together very closely, including having a pretty fun fight scene. It was fun for fans to watch, and was apparently fun for both actors to work.

Coming out of the film, Trejo spoke very highly of the inexperienced actor-turned-wrestler The actor also stated that Austin didn't take it easy on him either, but he felt safe due to the wrestler's experience in the ring. Trejo recalled:

"He was amazing. Me and him threw some punches that probably would've killed people, but they look so real, because [professional wrestlers] know what they're doing."

5 Steven Seagal

Steven Seagal and Steve Austin were the two leading stars of the 2012 film Maximum Conviction. Like most of the actor's catalog, this film was straight-to-video, which is why many fans likely aren't aware that the two star's paths crossed.

Nonetheless, Seagal has praised Austin for his work on the movie as a professional, but also as a friend. The veteran actor stated:

" I found him to be a constant professional. I really enjoyed him as a friend, a human being, an actor. He's a really good actor, and just a wonderful guy. He's just a simple country boy like me, so I got along with him really well."

The Condemned was one of Steve Austin's leading roles. While he was featured as the lead in several films, the majority were straight-to-DVD. The Condemned, meanwhile, received a theatrical release and featured a few high-profile names.

One of those names was Vinnie Jones, who spoke highly of the wrestler. The actor especially loved Austin's humor on set, stating in an interview:

"There was a lot of mickey taking because Steve’s got a great sense of humor... Yeah. The laughs were fantastic."

Yes, as Joey Diaz noted in his time discussing Steve Austin's time in The Longest Yard, Kevin Nash was also in the movie. In fact, the NWO member is one of the more successful wrestler-turned-actor stories, having had several major supporting roles.

That was the case in Longest Yard as well. According to Nash, who discussed the film on his podcast Kliq This, he spent the majority of his time on set with Austin:

"I remember the highlight of that whole thing is that Austin was there. Me and Austin were like two f*cking thieves man, we were with each other 24/7."

Sylvester Stallone was the face of The Expendables, as he was the leading man. However, he almost didn't get the chance to finish the film, as he suffered a broken neck courtesy of Steve Austin during a fight scene.

Stallone has a habit of taking fight scenes too far, which also led him to suffer several injuries in the filming of Rocky 4. Recalling his broken neck with Austin, he stated:

"Actually, my fight with Stone Cold Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I’m not joking. I haven’t told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."
