Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, better known as just Glow Up, came back for Glow Up season 3 earlier this year. The MUA series has done quite well, particularly with Dominic Skinner and Val Garland as the judges. Every episode showcases unique challenges for competitors, from doing makeup for models to drag makeup to personally inspired looks. In season 1, Ellis Atlantis was the winner and Ophelia Liu took the crown in season 2. In the most recent season, Sophie won the entire competition. “I’m so happy that this is happening and is real. Nothing really phases me anymore,” Sophie said about winning. The reality star added, “Glow Up has changed my life in all seriousness.”
The third season of the Netflix series Glow Up originally aired from April 20 to June 8, 2021. Since winning the show, Sophie has been posting new makeup looks on her Instagram. She’s done various clown-inspired looks (6, to be exact), which were part of a series. Sophie also did Cruella-inspired makeup in relation to the Disney movie’s recent release. She reached 200,000 followers on Instagram on August 7 and now has over 300,000 followers. Finally, Sophie graduated from The Arts University Bournemouth in the Makeup for Media and Performance program, as shown below:
On and off the screen, Sophie has been candid about being an autistic person. She first shared the fact that she was autistic with a mask-like look which represents how autistic women tend to hide behind a mask in their day-to-day life. Sophie from Glow Up also conquered her fear of public speaking during the virtual masterclass challenge on the show. Her challenge was to create “a look to make a statement” for the final brief on Glow Up.
Sophie based her makeup on coping mechanisms that help her feel unstoppable, using crystals and aromatherapy for comfort. “I got such a good response,” the MUA stated about her autism journey on the show. She continued, “There were so many young girls who messaged me saying they now understand themselves a bit better and a few people got diagnoses since seeing me on the show. People with autism are still quite a hidden group in society.”
Sophie is an inspiration on Glow Up and in the world of makeup, and a role model for many. She’s managed to graduate from a reputable arts program, share her journey with autism and win a prestigious makeup competition, all before the age of 23. Fans know good things are coming for this Glow Up star.
