What Is The Endgame Of The House Of Black In AEW?
Quick Links
With Malakai Black debuting in AEW during the Summer of 2021, the man would slowly tease and build his own faction within the company. In early 2022, the House of Black faction debuted in All Elite Wrestling, with Brody King and Buddy Matthews joining, and eventually recruiting Julia Hart into their ranks later in the year. Despite always being over and looking the part of true superstars, the group was hit with a number of issues, including Malakai asking for his release due to mental health issues and a nagging injury. After having some time off, the faction returned to AEW in late 2022 and are now once again looking to become one of the biggest acts in the company. Could now be the time for The House of Black?

It Was A Rough First Year In AEW For The House Of Black
Debuting in early 2022, The House of Black immediately became one of the coolest groups within Tony Khan's All Elite Wrestling. Things seemed to be taking off for them out of the gate, as the group began a feud with Death Triangle, though it would be hurt due to a freak injury to Rey Fenix. Things eventually culminated in a match at Double or Nothing, with the two teams having an incredible trios match on the PPV. At Forbidden Door, Malakai would fail to win the AEW All-Atlantic Championship before vanishing from TV due to personal issues and an ongoing injury.

In his absence, Brody King got a major singles push during the Summer of 2022, even getting a shot at the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley. Fans later found out that Malakai had asked for his release, though it would not be granted, something Black would later thank Tony Khan for as he explained his reasoning for it. The group was given time off in September, before coming back in late November.
Things Are Finally Looking Up For The House Of Black
After returning following Full Gear 2022, The House of Black would seemingly tease a feud with The Elite, attacking Brandon Cutler during an episode of AEW Rampage. Things failed to progress as The Elite tangled with Death Triangle in the Best of 7 Series, with The House of Black instead beginning a program with Ortiz and Eddie Kingston. While that feud was promising, it kind of just dropped out of everyone's interest in recent days, especially with no clear direction in sight. However, ahead of AEW Revolution, things shifted into focus as The Elite was targeted by Malakai Black's faction, seemingly setting up a AEW World Trios Championship Match for the PPV.

This is a major upgrade for AEW's resident spooky faction, who have been on the backburner since returning in November. As Malakai, Brody, and Buddy now gear up for a massive challenge against the biggest Trio in AEW, it finally feels like they are on the verge of taking their place as champions in AEW. While there is a chance that The Elite could win this first match between the two teams, it would be wise for Tony Khan to book a title change for the House of Black as they really feel like they need the championships, compared to The Elite, who can thrive without the titles.
The House Of Black Needs To Beat The Elite & Dominate AEW
Should The House of Black manage to dethrone The Elite, the group needs to be booked like the dominant unit they have always supposed to be. With all three men firmly back in AEW, it feels like their time to shine, and they could as the leaders of the Trios division. Matches against the likes of Dark Order, Death Triangle, Top Flight and AR Fox, The Butcher and The Blade and Kip Sabian, could help to firmly establish Malakai's trio of darkness as one of the top groups once more in AEW. If Santana ends up coming back to AEW this year, a major story could see Eddie Kingston reuniting with Santana and Ortiz to take on the House of Black.
There is also the matter of Julia Hart, one of AEW's homegrown women's wrestlers. With such youth on her side and great control over her goth girl gimmick, Julia feels like a woman who should get a much bigger spotlight in 2023. Whether it be in AEW or ROH, Julia Hart deserves to get a push sometime this year, with it possibly helping to build up House of Black even further.
