While Judge Judith Susan Blum is the face of Judge Judy, her bailiff Petri Hawkins Byrd also played a large role on the show. Petri was Judy's bailiff for 25 years, making a large presence on the show. Being Judy's bailiff changed Petri's life, as he not only grew a large social media following, but also got to guest star on different television shows.

The role of the bailiff typically consists of keeping order in the court. Although Petri's official role on Judge Judy was to be the courtroom's bailiff, as the years went on, he became more of a sidekick character to Judy. As Petri became more popular over the years, he began to grow his career both on and off of the show. Petri also holds the title of longest-lasting bailiff on a courtroom show.

Petri Hawkins Isn't Appearing On Judy Justice

Not long after Judge Judy season 25 came to an end in 2021, the famous judge returned to the courtroom for her new show Judy Justice. To the surprise of many longtime viewers, Petri didn't join Judy for the new show, but this wasn't by choice. In fact, Petri was actually not asked to return for Judy Justice. It's unclear why Judy wouldn't want her longtime sidekick to join her on the new show; however, it was quite disappointing. It's still unknown whether there were any issues between Petri and Judy, or if the decision was simply due to budget.

Petri Hawkins Byrd Is Active On Instagram

Although Petri is no longer on television, his followers can still stay up to date with him on social media. Over the years, Petri has gained over 30K followers on Instagram. According to his profile, the Brooklyn native currently resides in Los Angeles. He's quite active on the social media platform, posting very regularly. Petri's bio states that he's both an activist and philanthropist, which is proven by his posts. He is also a family man, sharing photos of his wife, kids, and even his grandkids.

Why Petri Was So Memorable On Judge Judy

There's no doubt that Judge Judy wouldn't have been the same without Bailiff Byrd in the courtroom each and every episode. Petri was the one to introduce each case, give instructions to the audience as to when to rise and be seated, pass along evidence, and more. Petri also introduced and concluded each case. Throughout the entire series, Petri managed to remain apathetic, not showing any emotion or sympathy to any of the cases. Although Judge Judy herself was in charge of the courtroom, the hit show was even better with Petri as the bailiff.
