What FFXIV: Endwalker's 2002 Error Means

After waiting in a long queue, fans that wish to log in to Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker are being met with Error Code 2002. The early access period for the new expansion started on December 3, 2021, and the game has seen a massive surge of players every day. Queue wait time varies drastically depending on the number of players planning to spend some time in Eorzea. Since the Error 2002 issue is server-side, fans will still need to wait. Adventurers can minimize the time by going to a different server or logging in at a different time of day.

With each FFXIV expansion, there is an influx of players wishing to experience the new content. Unfortunately, all adventurers cannot join at the same due to a limited amount of space. A queue is implemented to reduce stress on the servers and keep a stable connection for those playing. The wait time may be long but it's necessary to ensure that the game can be enjoyed by all fans. FFXIV recently had character creation disabled to combat congestion on its servers. For those who get Error Code 2002 when queueing up for Endwalker, they have a few options on how they wish to proceed with the issues they may be facing.

Error Code 2002 reads, "The lobby server connection has encountered an issue." Players will be kicked from the game and should wait a few minutes, before logging back into FFXIV. A post on The Lodestone reports that the code appears whenever a server has too much traffic or 17,000 characters are waiting to log in to a specific Data Center. A thirty-minute AFK in-game timer will be removing characters to allow only active adventurers to play. It may not be ideal, but these steps help to get fans into FFXIV: Endwalker faster as server capacity may not be increasing for years.

FFXIV: Endwalker - Can Error 2002 Be Fixed?

Instead of waiting to get into a populated World, players can also open the subcommand on the character selection screen and click "Visit Another World." This feature allows characters to temporarily travel to a server on their Data Center as a workaround for the 2002 Error. Adventurers may not be able to do everything they can do on their own server, but they can access the Main Story Quests. Avoiding peaks hours is also a good way to find a shorter queue time. Free FFXIV game time was gifted to players to compensate for the time spent waiting.  Before Endwalker, modifications were made internally to help with congestion, too.

The team explained that servers were optimized for the deluge of adventurers coming to FFXIV: Endwalker. Unfortunately, the global shortage of semiconductors prevented new Worlds from being created. The playerbase has dramatically increased as a whole since the summer, adding to the volume of adventurers. The Lodestone post goes on to say the team did what they could before release by "replacing the matching servers with higher-performance machines, optimizing processes, increasing processing speed, and raising the number of simultaneous logins."  Ultimately, the only guaranteed way to get into the game is to keep trying, and there are no known user fixes for getting past Error 2002.

While waiting in the queue for FFXIV: Endwalker, there are preparations players can make, such as reading the 6.0 patch notes to get a head start on the new content. The new expansion has understandably attracted a lot of attention from new and old fans alike. Endwalker concludes the struggle between Hydaelyn and Zodiark, a conflict that has spanned over the entirety of Final Fantasy XIV. Luckily, the story will be waiting for all players and is not time-limited. While the queue may be long for now, adventurers will soon gain the opportunity to experience an amazing story, and the Error Code 2002 notices will hopefully decrease.
