Tyson Chandler is set to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after the Phoenix Suns agreed to a buyout of his contract on Sunday.

As much as been announced by NBA.com, with the league's official website announcing that the player will join LeBron James in L.A. after he clears waivers with the Suns.

“We want to thank Tyson for his contributions to the Suns over the past three-plus seasons,” Suns Vice President of Basketball Operations James Jones said.

“With respect for Tyson’s accomplished career, today’s move gives him the chance to pursue a new opportunity while allowing our younger players to continue developing. Tyson is a consummate professional and we wish him all the best.”

Chandler, an 18-year vet, was in the final season of his four-year deal with the club and was due to make around $13.5 million this term.

“I am grateful for my time in Phoenix and want to thank my teammates, my coaches, the front office and the fans for an amazing experience,” he said. “I wish them the best and I am excited for the next stage in my career.”

The center played his high school basketball in Compton, California, just a few miles south of L.A. and is now heading back to where it all began.

He will likely play backup to JaVale McGee, with reports suggesting that Luke Walton asked Magic Johnson for more options at center during a meeting in which he was "admonished" by the Lakers President over the team's poor start.

The 36-year-old, who was drafted by the Clippers as the second overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft never actually played for a Los Angeles team as he was traded to the Chicago Bulls thereafter.

He has played for New Orleans, Dallas, New York and Charlotte since then, joining the Suns in 2015.

Chandler helped the Mavericks win a title in 2011, with the Western Conference side overcoming a star-studded, James-led Miami Heat. And he will now look to join forces with the new Lakers star in an attempt to win another ring.
