Two Former WWE World Champions Will Compete For The AAA Title At Triplemania

Dolph Ziggler, now Nic Nemeth, has been popping up all over the place since his WWE non-compete clause came to an end. Nemeth is already New Japan's Global Heavyweight Champion, and now he's got his sights set on an arguably even bigger title. AAA has confirmed which two wrestlers will be duking it out for its vacant Mega Championship. Nemeth is one of them, and fellow former WWE Superstar Alberto El Patron (formerly Del Rio) will be his opponent.

Nememth vs. Patron

El Hijo Vikingo recently had to relinquish the Mega Championship after holding it longer than anyone in AAA history (thanks, SEScoops). This was no Roman Reigns-style title reign either as Vikingo also defended the championship more than anyone who has ever held it, even putting it on the line in AEW a few times. Now there is no AAA Mega Champion, and either Nemeth or Patron will be the next to hold it.

Nic Nemeth began his WWE career in 2004, but two decades later, as Dolph Ziggler, he helped bring it to an end.

The two former WWE Superstars will do battle in one of three Triplemania main events. The biggest shows on the AAA calendar, and effectively the Mexian's promotion's WrestleMania, will take place on April 27. Provided Nemeth doesn't wrestle for AAA between now and then, which seems unlikely, if he beats Patron, he will become the promotion's World Champion in his very first match for the company.

Who Will Win?

Patron, on the other hand, has worked with AAA quite a bit, competing on two Triplemania cards including last year's when he teamed with Pentagon Jr. to take on Psycho Clown and Sam Adonis. As for how well acquainted Nemeth and Patron are with one another, even though it's been a while, the two of them have met before. Nemeth cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Patron more than a decade ago to take the World Title away from his Triplemania opponent.

It's somewhat fitting that all these years later, there will be a World Title up for grabs again when Nemeth and Patron clash. Patron has been wrestling exclusively for AAA for the past year, so it seems likely he'll be the one who wins at Triplemania. However, if AAA can get Nemeth to commit to more dates, having someone that notable with their top prize would be a great get.
