The Randy Orton Pose & 9 Other Things All Wrestling Fans Do

As a wrestler, one of the best ways to connect with the audience is to come up with something that they can emulate. It's an easy way for certain wrestlers to get over with audiences. Fans love to pay homage to their favorite wrestlers by imitating their poses or their catchphrases.

One wrestler who is particularly inimitable is Randy Orton. His signature pose, where he casually and smugly, holds both of his arms to the side, above his head, has been mimicked, ad nauseam, by fans all over the world. Along with Orton's pose, here are 9 other things in wrestling that fans love to imitate.

10 Diamond Cutter Symbol

Diamond Dallas Page has one of the most imitated finishing moves in all wrestling. Ironically, Randy Orton actually patterned his finisher, the RKO, after Page's Diamond Cutter. Before going for the move, Page would hold his hands above his head in the shape of a diamond, and fans quickly caught on, and began doing it as well.

At one point, Page even took legal action against none other than Jay-Z, after the Rapper began using the symbol to promote a brand, without Page's permission. There's no debating that the Diamond Cutter symbol is a favorite amongst wrestling fans and beyond.

9 People's Eyebrow

The Rock and Shaquille O'Neal Cropped

There's no question that The Rock is one of the most charismatic wrestlers of all time. One of the first things that Rock got over, was a simple raising of his eyebrow. It's funny to think that something so subtle, and kind of silly, would catch on with wrestling fans in such a massive way, but that's precisely what happened.

"The People's Eyebrow," as The Rock would come to christen it, would eventually transcend wrestling, just like the man himself.

When it comes to simplicity, it really doesn't get any simpler than Randy Orton's arm pose. Randy has been doing the pose since joining Evolution in the early 2000s, and it's still as popular today as it was, then. For Randy's character, it was a perfect way to illustrate his narcissism and aloofness, and give the fans something to identify with him.

Remarkably, Orton has done little to modify his signature pose, throughout the years. As one of the most enduring stars of modern wrestling, Orton has been successful by mastering the little things.

7 You Can't See Me

It's never really been explained why you can't see John Cena, but the gesture and the concept has certainly been successful. Like Randy Orton's pose, Cena has been using the "you can't see me," hand gesture, since he arrived on the scene. It didn't initially catch on like wildfire, but we all knew where Cena was likely headed.

Thanks to meme culture on social media, you can't see me has become even bigger than when John was a full-time wrestler. Fans love to wave their hand in front of their face, and exclaim, "you can't see me," as it's fun and somewhat facetious.

6 Hogan Ear Cup

Hulk Hogan WWE Championship

Bruce Pritchard has revealed on his podcast, that during the late 80s and early 90s, Vince McMahon was adamant that Hulk Hogan would pose, following his matches. One of his signature poses was when he would cup his hand to his ear to encourage the fans vocal approval.

Hulk Hogan is a wrestler whose popularity has transcended the entire industry. It's very likely to meet someone who has never watched a single wrestling program that knows Hogan's poses and catchphrases. Though a bit silly, Hulk Hogan's ear-cup is one of the most iconic wrestling poses of all time, and you can still see stars such as Chris Jericho, borrow it to this day.

5 Austin Finger Salute

Steve Austin as a referee Cropped

Easily the most controversial entry on this list is the Stone Cold, "finger salute." In this case, Austin took something that was already a well-known gesture, and made it a part of his persona. It's a vulgar and obscene hand gesture, but used in the right context it was instrumental in making Steve Austin a global phenomenon.

The middle finger was already a commonly used form of expression in day-to-day society, but when Austin started using it, it added another layer of meaning. This one is certainly not recommended, but there's no denying that fans love to pay tribute to Stone Cold, with a single digit.

4 Yes! Chant

The "Yes! chant" caught on during Daniel Bryan's ascent to the top of WWE, and it has only grown in popularity and ubiquity, since he first used it in the late 2000s. The chant has actually transcended Bryan, and is used at various and random points during any given wrestling show. Again, it's something simple and rather effortless, but fans just can't seem to get enough of the chant.

It consists of simply pointing both index fingers in the air, and chanting the word, "yes", in unison. It's very possible that we'll still be seeing the chant twenty years from now, as it has proven to have that sort of staying power.

3 Too Sweet/Bullet Club Salute

The Too Sweet/Bullet Club salute is possibly the only one on this list that has had two different meanings in two different eras. Originally used by The NWO, The Bullet Club would adopt the gesture as their own, several years later. As it pertains to modern wrestling the Too Sweet/Bullet Club gesture might just be the most popular and commonly used by wrestling fans, today.

In some ways, you can compare it to the "devil horns," popularized by musical acts, such as Ronnie James Dio. It's meant to symbolize a code of unity and devotion to its genre.

2 DX ChopBen Roethlisburger in WWE ring on RAW with DX

Much like the Steve Austin finger salute, your mother probably wouldn't appreciate this entry at all. Nevertheless, DX struck gold during the Attitude Era, with a very simple, but rather ribald hand gesture, that somehow found its way into mainstream culture.

The Attitude Era represented youthful, and in many ways, juvenile defiance. DX embodied these concepts as well as anyone else, and their signature "crotch chop," was their hallmark. While certainly inappropriate, the DX chop is a significant part of wrestling history that many fans still pay tribute to, to this day.

1 Ric Flair's Woooo!

Ric Flair with Brian Pillman and Arn Anderson in the Four Horsemen

The number one entry on this list is not a hand gesture at all, but rather a vocal exclamation. There is not an arena in the world, of any size or stature, in which a standard strike like the chop can be delivered, without being immediately met with a chorus of woos! The Woo is one of the most interactive and beloved exchanges between wrestlers and fans of all time. Despite Ric Flair's recent controversies, the Woo is as popular as ever, partially kept alive by Ric's daughter, Charlotte.

However, even when Charlotte has ridden off into the sunset, it's a virtual guarantee that fans will still be Woooing to their heart's content.
