The Movie (2021) — How Old Is Ryder? Age Explained
PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021) shows Ryder driving on the highway — so how old is the young human leader of the Pups (and does he ever age)?
Just how old is the Pups' human leader Ryder in PAW Patrol: The Movie? The feature film follows Ryder and the titular PAW Patrol as they head to Adventure City to thwart the incompetent "naughty mayor" (as he's often referred to in the show), Mayor Humdinger. Somehow, the top-hat-wearing fiend managed to leave Foggy Bottom and secure a much more prestigious role as the highest-ranking official in a much larger municipal government: mayor of the metropolis Adventure City.
Despite some critical reviews, PAW Patrol: The Movie is an effective big-screen debut for the Pups, transitioning the characters from the children's show to a bonafide blockbuster film. The move was inevitable, with Spin Master's IP being a dominant force in the market: PAW Patrol's seven-season run rivals that of previous heavy-weight Dora the Explorer, which ran for eight seasons.
Just like in the show, Ryder is the leader of the Pups in PAW Patrol: The Movie, managing their activities and even driving the PAW Patroller transport vehicle (available to buy as a toy, of course!) to Adventure City; however, seeing Ryder in the driver's seat, passing other vehicles on the road, begs the question: how old, exactly, is Ryder? He looks like a young boy, but if that's the case, he acts exceptionally mature for his age. The answer is a bit complicated.
According to Spin Master, Ryder is 10 years old. The official website (where you can buy toys!) describes him as a "10-year-old" boy who is the "leader, rescuer, and teacher of the Pups." Presumably, none of the characters in the series age. Of course, Ryder being 10-years old is a bit strange, considering he's always unsupervised, seems to have incredible autonomy and resources, and is apparently allowed to drive a vehicle on the highway. But, considering this is a children's show involving talking dogs, it's not that much more of a stretch of the imagination. Also, it's worth keeping in mind the core audience: to a preschooler, a 10-year-old is practically a teenager! This is best exemplified in the TV series by the dynamic between Ryder and the young wannabe Alex Porter.
The TV series PAW Patrol frequently changes the voice actors who portray their characters, largely in order to maintain the youthful qualities of Ryder and the Pups' voices. Interestingly, the actor who voices Ryder in PAW Patrol: The Movie, Will Brisbin, is actually 16 years old (meaning he would theoretically be allowed to obtain a driving permit). Despite the age difference, Brisbin does a convincing job portraying the young leader in PAW Patrol: The Movie.
