The Last 10 WWE PPV Main Events Not Involving Roman Reigns, Ranked Worst To Best

Roman Reigns is no doubt the biggest deal in pro wrestling today. There is no one who is at the level of fame and stardom as Reigns. Naturally, he is the face of WWE and is an almost permanent fixture in the main events of the biggest of the shows of the promotion.

While he has continuously headlined numerous shows, there have been recent instances when there were some other stars were given the honor of closing the night. Whether Reigns did perform on the PPV or not, it will always be a great achievement for any superstar to headline a Premium Live Event against a superstar not named Roman Reigns.

Note: The list doesn't include NXT events and Royal Rumble matches.

10 Drew McIntyre (c) Vs. The Miz (WWE Championship) - Elimination Chamber 2021

The Miz defeated Drew McIntyre at Elimination Chamber 2021

Drew McIntyre defended his WWE Title in the main event of Elimination Chamber 2021 and managed to stand tall following a hard-fought battle. Bobby Lashley attacked The Scottish Psychopath once the match concluded which gave way to Mr. Money in the Bank The Miz to cash in his briefcase for his second WWE Championship victory.

The match lasted just 30 seconds and the title run that followed was terrible as well. Roman Reigns performed on the same card when he fought an already exhausted Daniel Bryan and won the match in 96 seconds.

9 Bray Wyatt Vs. Braun Strowman (Wyatt Swamp Fight) - Horror Show At Extreme Rules

Bray Wyatt-Braun Strowman-Swamp Fight

WWE utilized the no-crowd restriction in 2020 by contesting some great cinematic and pre-recorded matches. From The Boneyard match to The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, fans were able to capture some great moments during the pandemic era.

However, one such cinematic match failed to deliver at a satisfactory level. The former two Wyatt Family members collided in a first-ever Swamp Fight that was nothing short of disappointing. Speaking of Roman Reigns, he was still away from the promotion because of the COVID outburst and his health concerns.

8 Men's Elimination Chamber Match (WWE Championship) - Elimination Chamber 2022

Brock Lesnar had already won the 2022 Royal Rumble and thus fans weren't excited when he was announced as a member of the Elimination Chamber match as well. Moreover, the match lasted just over 15 minutes, which is nowhere near how long a decent chamber match should be.

No one could land a serious blow to Lesnar except Theory, whom The Beast was toying with. Roman Reigns also performed on the card where he became one of the few superstars to defeat Goldberg.

7 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt Vs. Braun Strowman (Universal Championship) - SummerSlam 2020

Now we get into the category where all matches are at least satisfactory. After battling against Strowman for months, Bray Wyatt finally arrived as The Fiend to take on his former friend. The match was a 12-minute showcase of power where both stars displayed their strength.

It was the first SummerSlam since 2013 to not feature Brock Lesnar in the main event and the two stars did their best to cover the absence of Beast Incarnate. Roman Reigns returning at the end of the match and that too as a heel was the icing on the cake.

6 Fatal Five Way Match (WWE Championship) - WWE Day 1

Day 1 was the PPV where the clash of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns was meant to happen. However, Reigns was pulled out of the match due to COVID-19 hours before the event, and Lesnar was added to the four-man WWE Championship match, making it the main event Fatal-5-Way.

It was a short, yet great match where we got an idea of what a future Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar match would be like. However, this match completely derailed the momentum of Big E, who certainly deserved better as a champion.

5 Randy Orton Vs. The Fiend (Firefly Inferno Match) - TLC 2020

Randy Orton is such a good heel that he managed to make The Fiend a babyface in the storyline. The two locked horns at TLC in a weird match, that was no doubt entertaining.

Surprisingly, Orton managed to defeat the demon in a visually stunning way. Roman Reigns contested the penultimate match on the card where he defeated Kevin Owens in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match.

4 Drew McIntyre (c) Vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship) - Hell In A Cell 2020

Randy Orton brought back his Legend Killer gimmick in 2020 and Drew McIntyre was the man who took it upon himself to punish Orton for his deeds. Following a great match at Clash of Champions, the two fought in a rematch at Hell in a Cell, this time in the main event in the eponymous structure. The match was enthralling and ended with Orton becoming a 14-time World Champion.

Reigns finally ended his feud against Jey Uso, which is arguably his best as the Universal Champion, in an outstanding match that took place earlier that night.

3 Bobby Lashley (c) Vs. Drew McIntyre (WWE Championship) - Hell In A Cell 2021

Bobby Lashley won his first WWE Championship in 2021 and went on to defend it against Drew McIntyre in a series of matches. The last of these matches came at Hell in a Cell in a hard-hitting battle.

The bout lasted a lengthy 25 minutes and justified every bit of its runtime. It was one of the rare events where Roman Reigns didn't perform.

2 Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs. Kevin Owens (No Holds Barred) - WrestleMania 38 Saturday

Following numerous sporadic appearances as a legend, Steve Austin actually returned to the ring for one final match. The unthinkable happened at WrestleMania 38 when he had to return to take on Kevin Owens due to the latter's constant verbal attacks at Austin and his home state of Texas.

The match exceeded every expectation and ended an already good night on a high note. Roman Reigns, too, headlined the event as he squared off against Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 38 Sunday.

1 Sasha Banks (c) Vs. Bianca Belair (SmackDown Women's Championship Match) - WrestleMania 37 Night 1

Both Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair are exceptionally talented superstars and magic was bound to happen when the two stepped foot in the ring against each other. This dream clash happened on the night one of WrestleMania 37 and was as good as it gets.

Roman Reigns headlined the next night of the event where he defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan to continue his record-breaking title reign.
