The Hardy Boys Express Their Unhappiness With Current AEW Run

Highlights

The Hardys are one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling history, most notably from their time in WWE, but also with stints in Impact Wrestling, and now AEW. The brothers haven't had the best of times with their current job, with injuries piling up, and Jeff making headlines due to a DUI arrest and a stint in rehab. Despite the writing being on the wall, the Hardys aren't ready to let go of the spotlight just yet. In fact, they're upset about their lack of a creative push in AEW.

On The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt and Jeff voiced their displeasure with how things are going in AEW of late. Matt Hardy said:

"I feel like there is such a great spot for us at AEW if we're just utilized in the correct way and we've just got to get there. There's a huge fanbase that wants to see us and we're beloved. Sure, we're not Matt & Jeff Hardy of 1999 and 2000 but there is so much we can do to help young guys continue to come up and also give our rub-off to these young guys, but we just need to be utilized in the right way. And we hope we can get there, we feel like we're taking steps in the correct direction now.

"Creatively, just the way we've been utilized the last four months, it's been very frustrating. We've been very patient but there has been a lot of frustration (with) things we've done, and kind of how we've been utilized in some ways." (h/t Wrestling Observer)

It might have been Matt's podcast, but his brother was there to speak about his AEW frustrations as well. Jeff Hardy said:

“When I first came back [to AEW], it was pretty exciting. I didn’t know what was going to be happening in the near future, but I think the last time I was in this extreme dimension of y’all’s podcast, I said that in WWE, I felt like I was a ghost, just walking around backstage. Honestly man, I kind of still feel like that at AEW, just because of not being involved in something cool. I feel like there’s something so special that we [Matt/Jeff] have within us to really bring out. (h/t Wrestle Ops)

Is It Time For The Hardys To Retire From Wrestling?

Hardys And Lita 2 Cropped

The Hardys are arguably the greatest, most popular tag team ever, but father time is calling. Say what you want about Tony Khan's creative direction in AEW, but it's hard to argue that he's supposed to be doing more with the Hardys at their age and skill level. With Adam Copeland now in AEW, feuding with his former tag team partner Christian Cage, the stage is set for the perfect retirement match. Edge and Christian were without a doubt the Hardys' greatest rivals. One more match together is the idea way for Matt and Jeff to say goodbye, but it doesn't seem as if they're interested in retirement anytime soon.
