The 10 Most Memorable Promo Botches In WWE History

Promos are a huge part of professional wrestling as they are how stories are told and setup in WWE, but every now and then they just go totally wrong. Sometimes the pressure of the audience makes people crack, other times experienced names just make big mistakes.

While it can obviously be embarrassing for the talents involved in making the mistake, for the fans it leads to some hilarious moments. Promo botches often go down in history in the form of memes or lists like this, ensuring nobody ever forgets.

Within this list, we will take a look back at WWE history and rank 10 of the most famous times a wrestler botched their promo, messing it up completely.

10 Lucha Things

We kickstart this list with an absolutely hilarious botched promo from a member of the Lucha House Party, Kalisto. This moment came when the draft returned to WWE and Kalisto was put on SmackDown.

WWE gave him an interview segment to push himself and allow him to showcase why fans should be excited about his arrival. However, he did everything but that as he awkwardly went through the interview.

Kalisto told the fans to expect, "Good Lucha, Lucha things." Clearly knowing he had messed up big time, Kalisto literally jumped off-screen and ran away, which was probably for the best.

9 "It's Live, Pal."

Sycho Sid might have been physically impressive, but when it came to cutting promos, he never really impressed. This was an area where he consistently struggled, and during one backstage interview with Jim Ross that was highlighted.

JR asked a simple question but Sid made hard work of the entire situation. He struggled to get through his first few words and asked to start over. The problem with that? The segment was being shot live.

He had to be told awkwardly that they were live at that moment and he had to quickly try and get back on track.

8 SummerFest

Everyone has heard of the famous WWE PPV SummerFest, right? No, well neither had anybody else in the world when Jeremy Piven guest-hosted Monday Night Raw during the celebrity GM period of the show.

He was heavily involved in the show and clearly tried his best, but he also obviously didn't do his homework. WWE was building towards one of its biggest shows of the year, SummerSlam and Piven messed up the promotion on that.

He called it "SummerFest" and John Cena had to immediately jump in save the promo and stop it from becoming a complete disaster.

7 "His Name Is Jeff Harvey"

Ah, Mike Adamle. He was another person who was put in charge of Monday Night Raw for a brief period of time, and it really wasn't something he was overly comfortable with. However, his big promo botch came during his debut with WWE.

This happened at the Royal Rumble in 2008 where he was just a member of the broadcast team. Mike Adamle had one job, which was to send it back to a segment with Jeff Hardy, but he botched the moment.

Instead of getting it right, Mike Adamle showed his nerve and messed up, calling him "Jeff Harvey" instead.

6 John Lena

John Cena might be the face of WWE, but that doesn't mean that everybody is guaranteed to know his name, even his biggest rivals. Batista was never the most comfortable on the microphone, which is something he has openly admitted.

However, he wasn't someone who often made major mistakes during his promos. During his feud with John Cena though, he did make a big one as he called him "John Lena," which is something fans constantly reminded him about.

5 Ronda Gets Rumbled

Ronda Rousey took to wrestling like a duck to water. She was an absolute natural at everything and while she wasn't the greatest talker of all time, she certainly wasn't a bad promo.

However, when the fans began to turn against her in order to support Becky Lynch, the WWE Universe tried to catch her out. After Lynch won the Royal Rumble, the fans managed to achieve their goal.

Ronda struggled with her promo and eventually slipped up, fumbling her words. Ronda even admitted that the fans got to her, addressing her mistake.

4 The Genesis Of McGillicutty

THE GENESIS OF MCGILLICUTTY Cropped

The game show version of NXT really was an absolute disaster at times and it played host to some classic botches such as Titus O'Neil's first major trip. However, another great moment was Michael McGillicutty's horrendous promo.

He was trying to tell everyone that this was the "Genesis of McGillicutty," but it took him several attempts to get that out to the world. He used three different versions of "this is the moment," in one 30 second promo.

It was an incredibly awkward promo that was just one giant botch, and it was absolutely hilarious to witness.

3 Mean Gene Loses His Cool

Mean Gene Okerlund is arguably the greatest backstage interviewer in the history of professional wrestling. He was a perfect professional and never managed to screw up, apart from one classic moment.

Mean Gene was interviewing Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan backstage at SummerSlam, but he was put off as the sign behind him ended up dropping.

Clearly not expecting the moment, Mean Gene just turned around and bust out a profanity, despite being live on air at the time.

2 Welcome To The Silverdome, Brother

Hulk Hogan is one of the biggest stars in the history of the wrestling industry, but even he isn't immune to a botched promo. The Hulkster was always a solid talker, but during the opening of WrestleMania XXX, he made a big mistake.

The Immortal One kicked off the show and instead of welcoming fans to the Superdome he called it the Silverdome. Of course, the fans immediately booed and chanted the right name at him as Hogan realized his mistake on the spot.

It led to a hilarious segment as Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock both hit the ring and happily mocked him for his error. Because it was on the Grandest Stage Of Them All, this is an error that will never be forgotten.

1 The Miz Forgets The Information

When The Miz first arrived in WWE, he was fresh from his reality series and was a big star who WWE expected to be able to talk well. However, the nerves of finally arriving in WWE clearly got the best of him on this occasion.

The Miz was out to encourage fans to vote for the Divas Search. He totally fluffed his lines and forgot everything he was supposed to say, awkwardly looking up to the titantron to check the website.

He then had to look at his wrist to see what the phone number was as he fumbled through each sentence. Commentary started laughing and The Miz even laughed at himself. Who'd have thought he would go on to become such a great promo?
