Tashuan Gipson Rips Jaguars Amid Disappointing Season

It wasn't supposed to go down like this.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are supposed to be competing for not only the AFC South division crown right now, but home field advantage throughout the playoffs. And, oh yeah, their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

But following a heartbreaking 29-26 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, Jacksonville now sits at a putrid 3-6 on the season, having now lost five consecutive games.

The Jaguars have been so bad, that their Week 11 contest vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers was taken out of its Sunday Night Football prime time slot and moved back into an early 1 p.m. start.

Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Jaguars safety Tashaun Gibson was quite blunt when it came to talking about how bad his team has performed lately:

Jacksonville was just a couple of plays away from defeating the New England Patriots in the 2017 AFC Championship Game - almost clinching their first Super Bowl trip in history.

With a young defense - which ranks second in the NFL right now - and a power ground game led by Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars were expected to be among the AFC's elite this year.

It was all looking promising when they started out 2-0 on the season - including a statement 31-20 home win against the powerhouse Patriots. Blake Bortles was making plays, avoiding turnovers and looked ready to turn a corner in his career.

Three of Jacksonville's six losses this season have been by six points or less, so a couple of bounces in this games, and perhaps they're sitting nicely above .500. But the AFC's best defense from a year ago hasn't been making the same amount of big game-saving plays that we saw in 2017, and that's certainly been a reason for their struggles this season.

The Jaguars have to win out just to finish 10-6, which should be enough to take the final wild card spot. But if they lose one more game, their playoff hopes will be all but over.
