SmackDown's Shotzi Blackheart Undergoes WWE Name Change

WWE Superstar Shotzi Blackheart has had her ring name adjusted after being transferred from NXT to SmackDown.

According to her WWE.com roster bio, Shotzi has dropped the Blackheart and will be known by just her first name going forward.

Shotzi joins many of her colleagues on a long list of NXT stars who have had their last names dropped after moving to the main roster. This is possibly due to the company's desire to create recognizable stars who it believes are more marketable with names that are comprised of as few syllables as possible.

Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox debut on SmackDown

Shotzi is a former NXT Women's Tag Team Champion who signed with WWE in 2019 after a stint on the independent scene. Her first brush with WWE fame occurred in 2015 when she was set to appear as a contestant on that year's season of Tough Enough. Sadly, Blackheart had to withdraw before the competition began due to a medical issue.

Since signing with WWE Shotzi was has been featured on NXT fairly regularly. In November of 2020, Shotzi led her own team in a women's War Games match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. Team Shotzi (Shotzi, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, and Io Shirai) were defeated by Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Raquel González, and Toni Storm), but Shotzi still proved that she can handle herself in a marquee WWE match.

WWE's main roster women's division is in desperate need of fresh blood and if she's booked well, Shotzi has the potential to be a huge star. She won the NXT Universe over with her unorthodox style and eccentric antics, and there's no reason she can't carry that momentum over to the main roster. Plus, she drives a small tank to the ring.

She may have lost her last name, but we're looking forward to seeing Shotzi take care of business on SmackDown.
