Shotzi Confirms Severity Of Her Injury, Will Be Out For At Least Nine Months

Even though the match didn't air until this week's episode of NXT, reports that Shotzi suffered a serious injury during her Women's Title shot surfaced a few days ago since the match was taped ahead of time. The title bout ended prematurely and Shotzi was helped to the back, and unfortunately, the injury was as bad as we feared. Shotzi took to Instagram ahead of her match airing to confirm she has torn her ACL, and that she will likely not be able to wrestle again for the next nine months.

Another Knee Injury

Shotzi looks upbeat in the photo she shared on Instagram from a hospital bed, but was very open and honest in the accompanying statement in which she details how tough the last couple of years of her life have been.

I tore my ACL which means I will be out of action for about nine months. Thank you to everyone who has checked up on me. I am so sorry if I haven't responded. I am just extremely devastated and angry. I have been through a lot the last few years and it has been so hard to keep up with what I think is expected of me.

WWE's Shotzi stuns fans wrestling in wedding dress post-Vegas nuptials, adding another layer to her already bubbly personality.

Shotzi has lost her dad and her stepdad over the course of the past few years, and her sister was diagnosed with cancer last year. That's why the WWE Superstar shaved her head, incorporating the act into her feud with Damage CTRL. Shotzi wanted to shave her head in solidarity with her sister and when asking for permission from WWE to drastically change her appearance, the idea of using it in a storyline was dreamt up.

The List Gets Longer

Shotzi's statement, which you can check out in full above, also appears to suggest that her match on NXT this week would have been the beginning of a longer stay on the brand. The goal being to return to NXT prove herself again and rebuild her confidence. Perhaps when Shotzi has recovered from her injury, probably not until the end of 2024 at the earliest, NXT will be where we see her show up next. Shotzi was supposed to compete in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match on SmackDown last week but was replaced by Zelina Vega.

Shotzi's injury is the latest in a run of very similar knee issues a number of female Superstars have been sidelined with in WWE, particularly in NXT. Charlotte Flair is on the shelf, as is Cora Jade. The three of them join Sola Ruca and Wendy Choo, both out with similar injuries, as well as Nikkita Lyons who has been re-injured after recently making an in-ring return.
