Sheamus Is Dealing With A Serious Shoulder Injury
Highlights
- Sheamus, despite his age of 45, has been a reliable and physically fit WWE star since 2009.
- Sheamus has been absent from WWE due to a severe shoulder injury, although neither he nor WWE have officially confirmed it.
- With Sheamus' contract ending next year, his future in WWE is uncertain, and there is speculation that he may consider joining AEW due to their limited schedule and his frustrations with WWE's booking.
Sheamus has been one of WWE's most dependable stars since 2009, but at the age of 45, his age might be catching up with him, despite the fact that he keeps himself in tremendous shape. Sheamus was last seen in a WWE ring at the August 18 SmackDown from Toronto. It was there that he faced Edge for the first time in what may have been the Rated-R Superstar's last time with the company. For over a month now he has been out of action, not even appearing alongside his Brawling Brutes faction members Butch and Ridge Holland, who have continued to wrestle on SmackDown in his absence.
We know where Sheamus has been. According to The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, “By the way, Sheamus — really bad shoulder injury. That’s why he hasn’t been on TV or at the house shows.” Sheamus has continued to be active on social media, but neither he nor WWE has commented to confirm the injury or its severity.

Is Sheamus' Time In WWE Winding Down?
Sheamus has done it all in WWE. He's a four-time World Champion, a Royal Rumble winner, a Money in the Bank winner, and a former King of the Ring. He has also been a United States Champion and carried tag team gold on both Raw and SmackDown. Though his world champion days appear to be over, he's still an important presence and fan favorite as part of the Brawling Brutes faction with Ridge Holland and Butch on SmackDown. He was also Edge's choice to be his last possible match last month.
Sheamus can still go in the ring and looks as jacked as ever, but how much longer can he keep wrestling at this pace? If this injury is severe, it could be one that seriously alters his career. Then there's also the fact that his WWE contract ends next year. When that time comes, Sheamus will have been with WWE since 2007. He spent two years in developmental, before first showing up on TV as part of WWE's version of ECW in 2009. Just six months later he shocked the wrestling world when he beat John Cena to become the new WWE Champion.
Sheamus has given everything to WWE, but how much more does he have left, especially with the company's intense road schedule? With his contract soon running out, will he be tempted to join AEW, where they seldom do non-televised shows? That limited schedule would certainly be best for his health, no matter where he competes. Sheamus has also spoken out on his booking frustrations, which is another thing to consider. No matter how long Sheamus continues to wrestle, whether his career is near over or he keeps going into his 50s, he has proven himself to be an underrated all-time great. As a singles star, a tag team specialist, a face, or a heel, Sheamus has succeeded at everything given to him. We wish him the best in his recovery from this serious shoulder injury and hope to see him back in the ring soon.
