Saddening Details On Pat Patterson's Final Days

WWE continues to mourn the death of Pat Patterson following the veteran's passing last week. Patterson is dead at 79, on the back of a very long involvement with WWE that saw him win the 24/7 Championship as a final accolade.

The WWE Hall of Famer's passing was sad indeed. But, per additional details from Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer, it appears the days leading up to Patterson's demise were very painful.

Meltzer pointed out that Patterson was diagnosed with bladder cancer years ago and was in a very poor state prior to his death. According to Meltzer, Patterson had developed dementia and was moved to an assisted living arrangement.

Sylvain Grenier, a former WWE star, is said to have been extremely close to Patterson and even had power of attorney over the former WWF North American Heavyweight Champion.

Meltzer revealed Grenier flew to Florida to check on Pat and observed a significant drop in weight. The 79-year-old had been taken to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had a tumor on his lung. Patterson was also rushed to a medical facility towards the end of November with a blood clot in his liver after the tumor spread. Grenier was told he'd have to come to Florida if he wanted to see his friend again.

Pat's Liver Sadly Couldn't Go The Distance

The vet was supposed to have a biopsy to determine whether the tumor was cancerous. The procedure was scheduled for last Friday but Patterson passed two days before, on Wednesday.

Grenier, who says Patterson was "out of it" by the time he got to Florida, wasn't allowed to spend much time at the hospital because of COVID-19 measures. Patterson sadly passed away at 1 am on Wednesday morning following liver failure.

TheSportster would again like to extend a R.I.P to Patterson, as well as commiseration to his family and loved ones.
